Sooo... I just bought Sleeping Dog.
Read some reviews and mostly was postive and even titled a "GTA-killer". I know, not trustworthy but reviews said it's an action-packed, fun open-world-game. Bought at a key seller which made it rather cheap too.
Anyone else waiting for Friday and its release?
-
Seriously? Nobody bought Sleeping Dog?! :o
-
I might try an extended trial first :)
-
hehe granted ^^
Found the limited edition for 25 bucks kinda cheap at a key-seller so I thought I'd go with it.
-
Looks great. But dnno, might buy it later.
Only games in my sight this year is CS Global Offensive, Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed 3, COD Black Ops 2 and WWE 13 and maybe NFL 13.
We'll see bout Sleeping Dogs.
But seen gameplay by TotalBiscuit and some other guys and it looks awesome. Assassins Creed meets GTA meets Jackie Chan :P
Should've been called True Crime Hong Kong right?
-
Yea, it started out as True Crime: Hong Kong. But then the publisher went financially down the drain and sold the rights to Square Enix.
...but Black Ops 2? Seriously? I liked the very first MW-part cuz it was something "new" but everything after that was just boring railshooter-stupidity.
Sleeping Dogs on the other hand? How many Open-World-Martial-Arts-Fighting-Games do you know? Exactly! It's the first :D
-
How is it? Im going to buy it too
-
Release is tomorrow for Europe.
So far, I've read alot of good things about it.
At the end it comes down to this for me:
I love Jackie Chan. Always did. I am a huuuge fan of him. He's just such a great guy. So, there is no way I won't play a game that gives even the slightest feel of being in Police Mission, Mad Mission, Rush Hour or one the other quadrillion movies he made  Jackie Chan FOREVAAAH!

JAWS!
And meh, besides the usual QQ from pimple faced hardcore gaymers lots of peeps i know will be getting BO2.
Remember that each time Infaility Ward fucked up Treyarch tried to fix it. BO2 also seems to be a somewhat fresh game in the COD series.
But nuff bout COD. Yeah game looks awesome.

It's awesome. I am about 100 minutes in now and it is just a lot of fun to play.
Fighting works like Batman with the timing and counter and stuff. I like the animations, looks nice. Driving is okay, I'd say. GTA 4 was more of a pain in the ass than Sleeping Dog. At least in my opinion. Story seems to be cool too. Really like the characters I've seen so far but those are probably just a little of what there still is.
I havent had any shootings yet, just lots of rumble :D and it's just fun.
Yep, I am Jackie Chan and I love it!

Finished the main story now and it took me 26 hours. Which is a good value for any game today. And I enjoyed every minute of it. Gameplay is demanding at times but never on a frustrating level.
I enjoyed this game way more than GTA 4 tbh. Definitely worth the money I spend on it!
-
Is there any sandbox to it, anything interesting to do when you're finished with the main story?

I cant really tell tbh cuz I finished it like 30 minutes ago ;)
As far as I can tell right now, I'd have to say "No". I haven't done every single little side mission yet, neither all races, so those kind of things you can still do ofc. Besides that there isn't much to do.
My biggest Negative right now would be that you can't get as "apeshit" as you can in the GTA-games. On the other hand, GTA 4 wasn't really inviting me to do that either, so...
The game shines at the fighting. It uses that Batman-system. Light, Heavy attacks and counters. Come to mind, there are fight clubs around the city which you can visit any given time, over and over again. I did those a lot :D Fighting 15 triad brawlers at once is kinda cool
Overall, I'd say the game gives probably 30 hours of really good fun. I wasn't bored even once.
I'd suggest, if interested, to check out those keysellers. I bought my key from one of those for... I think around 30€. Fun fact: Game is on selling stop in Germany, buying the key from a seller gave me the opportunity to get the PEGI-version (Uncut!)...

I never understood this? What is wrong with the driving in GTA 4? The game has awesome physics and the cars have proper weight to them. You can pull of amazing handbrake turns and they are oh so satisfying. Much better than the Mario Kart driving you had in the previous GTA's. I just love cruising through town with my music on taking them turns like a boss in GTA 4.
I am going to try an extended trial for this aswell.

Yeah I liked GTA 4 driving as well. Felt more realistic.
-
I didn't like that wobbly feel the cars had. Less wobbly in SD...

This.. is so true.
I loved grabbing that R/T Charger lookalike car, even without the handbrake it was like controlling a boat on water. 8-)
