Title: Do something against cheaty-use
Post by: Elio on August 15, 2012, 04:10:47 pm
I'm scared to see how some lawless players can change the nature of this game with impunity.

- First some guys was ready to play with shity Dx7 graphism just to be able to see easily players in night time
- Change sounds of horse'/human' walk to easily hear players coming from your back. (been known since native beta)
- Change textures of arrows/bolts/throws into rainbow colors to avoid them easily (seen on many crpg video)
- What's next? They probably did the same thing with bush / wall / fog textures

Recently someone asked in Eu1 if macro was allowed... "Macros like left swing + kick + up swing"

(click to show/hide)

Between macro-use and autoblock there is only one step.

It's getting worse and worse and apparently I'm the only one shocked by these practices...

Didn't even know macros were possible. Aaand I don't think I have an opinion about it.

I don't accuse you, I deplore the fact that it exists.

I agree all thoses people making bushes and leaves invisible, and making all range projectile pinky color (while also making them slightly bigger) are definitely cheaters.

Thing is, nothing has been done about that since ages, and i know some other people are starting to fall in the dark side, and using them too.

I'm an archer, and i have great difficulty aiming at long-range, since i just can't SEE my arrow any more...
But i feel more and more people are using thoses "cheats" to make their arrows and bolts easier to see... You may have the "feeling" for archery, but when you don't see your arrow, you don't know if you should aim higher or lower...

Definitely cheating in my opinion. As much as using a controller, wich is a bannable offense, if i remember correctly. All in all, all extra things not provided in the normal mod, giving advantages over others, are cheats.

I'm pretty sure that if Cicero uses macros, that 80% of turkish community does the same. Same goes for russian players, once one of them finds about something that spreads like a wildfire among all of them.

You could make the launcher check some critical files on startup and send info to the great overlords. They would then wait until the dude had a cool char and some looms and would then ban his cd-key.

I still don't get why people would cheat in video games. I mean, it's a game. It's not like you "win" anything.

The funny thing is that people who usually use such things are terrible. Having some kind of kick macro won't make them any less terrible. A good player will still take them apart.

You win e-peen.

Anyways, what's considered a cheat and a mod here? Ive seen some things that I could consider a cheat being on the compatible mods thread. The heavy hooves sound mod, the alternative crosshairs, the old arrow models. I guess it just depends on what the devs think is okay.

Alternative crosshairs ?
Yeah, cause this thing can definitely change everything.
I thought people used it cause it's better looking, it doesn't change anything for your own accuracy.

Comparing that one to other "cheats" like rainbow color models, is... arresting a mouse for breaking things in a shop, while letting the elephant lose.

All minor cheats with little advantage that make their game ugly... if they wanna play an ugly game just to see rainbow arrows...

And macro for combat moves... i would love to duel guys that use them

Okay, alternate crosshairs isnt that big of a change, but when I used it I noticed a big increase in hitting long-range shots.

Macros can be set without being detectable. I don't use them, but there are periferals which would allow you to have macros set to a button rather than having the game run a .cfg or .txt macro.

Personally I use a Belkin N52TE gaming keypad and a Logitech G510 gaming keyboard - both of which have 15 and 18 respectively customisable buttons.

Since the game sends every control to the server, the server can look for repeated actions that clearly go beyond human accuracy.

Potentially this could be used to ban macro users.
