I made a post like this a long time ago, but I don't think I had a poll. I'm just curious.
How do you line up most of your shots? (of course certain circumstances change things).
-
When I use an xbow (especially from a castle's walls), I'm usually in first person without zoom. On my archer alt and my HC alt, I just keep it in the non-zoomed third person for speed.
-
Voted other. I never use the same view, I just change it randomly. It depends on the bow, the build, wpf and map part. Always different for me. I'm 80% in 3rd person view though. Worked better in native but Im used to it now. ;P
-
I voted incorrectly, so you can subtract one from 1st person standard, and change to 3rd person standard.
I typically 3rd person standard at medium & close range. Long range I'll sometimes use zoomed in.
-
I switch between 1st and 3rd person. Depends if there is cover or not.
-
3rd person zoom most of the time. 3rd person no zoom sometimes because I feel like I hit more. 1st person zoom when trying to get someone at a steep angle (like looking below you).
-
3. person and zoomed in, no matter if 1 or 100 meter shot.
-
1st person zoomed in most of the time.
-
3rd person, Zoomed or 3rd person normal. Depends on how accurate i wish to be and what I'm doing.
-
When I first got this game, I must have spent about 5 months on the Native module multiplayer before I realized you could go to first person or zoom.
-
Whenever I played as a ranged character in Warband/cRPG, I preferred standard first person.
It just gives you a better look around the terrain, so you can calculate trajectory easier when relating to the surroundings of the target.
Zoom is optional, rarely used it, although it has it's advantages, if you get used to it.
-
As HA first person view standard. Only zoom in for a very long shot and likely if I'm stationary. 99% of my shots are standard though.
3rd person is fing weird for ranged due to the weird angles vs your POV. Particularly when shooting upwards/at range.
-
But aiming is weird in 3rd person. The arrows fly off at a very odd angle in regards to your POV. It doesn't make for good judgement I've found. Could never get used to 3rd person.
Yeah, I mixed 3rd and 1st person up for some reason, look at the post again, corrected. :)

Ah makes more sense :P

360noscope

360noscope
Well, every ranged shot is a noscope here. 8-)
-
When shooting high at walls, 1st person zoomed is the best.
On regular battle, it's always 3rd person, zoomed for all except close melee shots, or quick shots.
-
3rd zoomed
-
this is gonna be skewed by xbow vs archers
i think most archers use 3rd zoomed while most xbows probably use 1st zoomed, going from bows to xbows 1st zoomed just "felt" better
-
Lol @ all the archers that 1st person. No wonder some just have 0 awareness.

Bah...I should have done different polls!

3rd, no zoom

3rd person + zoom, anything more is too much trouble.
-
Other.
Most of the time, be it Siege, Battle or Defend the cmp, I use 3rd person view default. Nothing should be taking my awareness there in any situation.
In Strategvs battles I use a lot the zoom of the 3rd person view, specially those use Sieges with silly ranged on the other side standing still (easy targets), on the stalemate moments (beginning of Sieges or Battles, or when the distance justifies it).
edit: forgot to mention that I'm using a Bow.

Same stuff as Bagge has and you have my money
-
I'm allways aiming in first person.
But I'm switching from 3rd- to 1st person many times, its like;
drawing the bow > 1st person > aim > shot > 3rd person > drawing the bow... and so on.
-
Most of my shots are third person, zoomed. ~30% are unzoomed
I only go first person when I am standing by obstacles, and I need to shoot around/through something.
-
1st person zoomed (as most of my shots are long range shots), 1st person non-zoomed when enemy is <10 meters to me, 1st person while melee fights, 3rd person while running from spawn and typing.
I find 1st person good for me, I rotate camera once and keep all my enemies/teammates in mind, so I have time to snipe. Those who think that you can't be aware of enemies while playing first full person, tell me more about battle awareness - visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Deal with it 8-)

I tried using a bow in first person but it reminded me of using one in Morrowind where the arrow flies out oddly in a place where it wasn't notched.
-
I won't tell
-
I use 3rd person most of the time, and dont usually zoom in. The reason is hybridising, with only 130 wpf and 5 PD if I zoom in my reticule is just too big...
I sometimes use first person, though only if I am shooting through a window/arrowslit or downwards from a high wall that my arrows can get stuck on.

Ironically sniping from a tower on defense in strat requires literally 0 melee battle awareness... so that's probably not a good example
Still it's cool to see players be effective with the different views.

You're wrong my friend. It requires a lot of battle awareness. I'd say it's even more difficult than a regular battle.
1) Ladders coming out from everywhere (a lot of them!)
2) Siege tower with a lot of ranged there
3) Catapult which has AOE 100% death shots
4) Destroyed wall
5) Lots of ranged by the wall
And I was on the walls 90% of the time so I didn't camp on the city tower or anything. Plus I got cut from the rest of my team a couple of times, still managed to survive. My blocking skills and 9 athletics helped me.
-
Third person Zoomed in. I like going for long range shots whenever circumstances allows it. The only time that I do not zoom in is if the enemy is standing on top of me, or the angle makes zooming in screwing the aim up.
-
i use some unusual procedure it seems ... even tho im not the best shot anymore , once , ages ago was not the worst archer me thinks
For ranged precision shooting i use to zoom in 1st person view, but just before i shoot i would release the zoom button(shift) to get back to normal 1st person. I can better estimate the ballistic of my arrows like that and make last minor vertical adjustments, which i cant in zoom mode.
Sometimes after releasing the arrow i would also zoom in again to better see where the arrow goes...
For "normal" spamming in mid and close distances i just use normal 3rd person (i use tartar arrows).
-
I close my eyes and scream "JESUS IS AIMING" over TS...
-
I tend to always shoot 1st person unless I happen to be in 3rd and suddenly have to shoot my xbow that instant. I am perpetually switching from 3rd to 1st person and back again. I shoot in 1st person and flip to 3rd person immediately after the shot, checking my surroundings and ready to melee while reloading. In my opinion shooting in 1st person is by far the most accurate and meleeing in 3rd person allows you to have the most battlefield awareness. If I ever decide to stream sometime, people would probably get dizzy just watching me.

Agreed. I also find it easier to lead shots in 1st person versus 3rd.

whats aiming? :o

While reloading a xbow you have a lot of time to look around and you're usually far away from the battle to be easily surprised by a infantry attack. Thats nothing special in my eyes

While strategus battles i'm on the walls and most of the time I have at least one enemy <10 meters around me
-
Wow... thats at max. two directions to watch on a wall
-
Behind cover/shieldwalls/holes in the walls 1st person zoomed in. On every other occasion it's 3rd person and zoomed. Only time i am not zooming in is when i already drew my bow and melee is too close to me to change to melee.
-
I use 3rd person and zoom if I need to snipe. For close or medium range I go without zoom.

Bah. If it is so easy, why don't you have such KD as me then?
-
Bah. If it is so easy, why don't you have such KD as me then?
Because I don't have an xbow/bow to shoot ppl from far and I suck at blocking and 1on1. Still that says nothing about my battle awareness 8-)

I'm a thrower/shielder hybrid, so I didn't vote, but I had always played 1st person, even in melee, due to playing single player since .941 or whatever. And I died lots. Finally I made myself get used to fighting in 3rd, and I finally started winning fights. But I so sucked at aiming- everything was low, and when trying to hit some cav I'd usually headshot the pikeman who just stopped his horse. Not a good way to make friends.
Now I switch to first to throw, but always forget to switch back for melee and then I die. Kinda sad really.
