Title: remap your keys!
Post by: Zisa on April 09, 2011, 07:40:48 am
Keep getting easy kills for people for dumb shit - weapon changes etc.

Q - change weapon
E - change mode
R - change shield

left SHIFT - free look
(can you guys not hear horses, or get it that near start of round it could still be enemy cav?)

you get the idea...

always considered remapping weapon slots, cause in very deep melee combat I HAVE pulled another weapon....but yeah for me the tilde key is not a hard reach, spend half my time in warband holding tilde.....and as an archer, people say its all click click click, but I press R more often than clicking :D

anyone have the problem that it doesnt save changes you've made?  I've searched taleworld forums and not found anything.  I tried the demo on steam, which I'm thinking caused the problem (but it had the same problem as well)

I always wanted to do this but i am a bit lazy ;)
Would love to have my shield on the back as standard as 2hander ;)
But i guess that is not possible with a 2-Hand weapon that can be
used as 1-Hand.

Nearly every game I've played for the past 10 years have been remapped. I don't get why WASD became standard for movement keys. I've always ESDF which is a natural position from typing. It frees up more keys to use the small finger with. It works well for games where leaning is possible as A lets me lean left and Q lean right while being free to still move around (too many years playing Medal of Honor Allied Assault).

 I use Q for looking around, A for kicking, shift for zoom, etc. I've always specified mousewheel movements, too: mousewheel up for weapon change and wheeldown for shield rather than scrolling through a selection. I always use Y for Chat-all and U for Chat-team not matter which game I play.

I'm new to M&B multiplayer, so that's my config from single player. Not sure if I'll have to change things up.

Thats standard settings.

This game doesnt have enough buttons to warrant remapping imho, WASD, q for QQ, E to use, R for view, F for kicks, shift for zoom, tilde for freelook, X to change mode, SPACEBAR to pull stunts.....sorted, super efficient, ONLY combo that can take a little getting used to is going from free looking to rightstrafe kick.

Make sure that you've mapped a key to every function available; otherwise it won't save your keybinds. I had the same problem when I first started playing Warband.

I like to put kick on a side button of my mouse. So I press my thumb to kick. Otherwise, I keep most things standard. As soon as I try to remap something, it completely screws up my muscle memory as I've used the same basic buttons for 10+ years.

most important change for me: put freeview on third (wheel) mouse button. Makes it a lot easier to stay aware of everything behind and around yourself.

Good tips. I've also used ESDF for everything for about fifteen years. I may put freelook onto my thumb button (Logitech G5 ftw) since this game has no VoIP (my standard thumb mapping).

I have freelook on Q, voice commands on V, change weapon on C and the others keys as standard, suits me very well.

Freelook on my mouse 5 is helpful. Looking around while moving is very useful.

No other remapping needed for me, because i use my nostromo speedpad n52.

I have macro's for: "LEFT" "RIGHT" and "CHARGE" in teamchat. Saves some typing when trying to lead in battle and allows me to shout "CHARGE" while fighting.
Oh, i also two macro's for convenience: one that just keeps the rightmouse button pressed (permablock) and the other that keeps rightmouse pressed and also keeps W pressed (block and walk forward). Used to use them a lot during long, tedious strategus battles.
(Yes, i know you can block, walk forward and open chat to achieve the same effect, but i like having it on a button.)

I wish I thought about the "esdf" configuration when I first started playing multiplayer games. I would have used that instead of "wasd".
It's too late for me to learn a new setup all over again as "wasd" is programmed into my dna by now :p

The only remap I've done is,
Q = Looking around
Tilde = Holster
Mousebutton 4 = Weaponmode toggle
