Title: cRPG Achievements for New Players
Post by: Elindor on August 11, 2012, 06:52:16 pm
Inspired by some recent ideas Ive seen from other people (including one by Eren) I thought it might be a good idea to have some basic Achievements that would help new players learn and experience cRPG.

These would be things you naturally do during cRPG gameplay (so as not to make people go out of their way) but could help "teach" the game and its mechanics to new players.

Quick examples:

1 - Buy first item from the website and equip it in game = some experience gained
2 - Create your first alt and/or skip the fun character = gain a little extra gold
3 - Reach lvl 15 on first character = gain a little gold
4 - Reach lvl 25 on first character = gain a little experience
5 - Reach lvl 30 on first character = gain a little gold and experience
6 - Kill 50 enemy players = gain a little experience
7 - Kill 200 enemy players = gain a little experience and gold
8 - First successful parry = gain a little experience
9 - Try each game mode = gain a little experience and gold

stuff like that...
these would only be available first gen of first character ever - again, for new players.

could be other things too, and listed on their website page - basically the devs could use these to "guide" players a bit to try the things they want them to try.

Just an idea that occured to me...

I think the "best" "quest" in order to reduce frustration would be "join a ladder".
I don“t think number two would be useful since this splits the interest of the new players on several characters which results in two lowlevel characters instead of one medium-leveled character.

But anyways, good suggestion, perhaps kind of a "timer" could be useful:
"35 kills to go to get the MASSACRE-ACHIEVEMENT"

This reminds me of the bonuses that Borderlands gave to players for trying out new things or exploring them for a bit, an interesting idea.

Every achievement should have some information as well, example:

"Join a ladder":

- before you apply for a ladder clan you should look for more information about the clans (i.e. "a link to the Faction forums"), check if the clan is NA/EU, has any requests to new members (i.e. "a certain activity, activity in Strategus, TeamSpeak, IRC, forums") and more.

"become level 15":

- you get 1 attribute point and 1 skill point per level. You can also convert attribute and skill points in a 1:2 ratio.

---

regarding the xp and gold gains for the achievements, it would need some thoughts. Example if you get 10k xp for an achievement you must know that 10k xp means 10 ticks and 500 gold in total which you wouldn't get. :)

Good idea after all!!!

Retire.
Heirloom armor.
Heirloom a weapon.
Top the board.
Bottom the board.
Get kicked.
Get banned.
Land a kick.
Get kicked.
One-shot somebody.
Get one-shot.
Buy/sell/auction/trade an item on the marketplace.
Get a kill while under level 5.
Get headshot.
Survive headshot.
Preform a chamber.

That's all I got.
