So I'm still on my first gen (level 28) and have pretty much settled on a playstyle but still unsure of how to make a proper build. Right now I'm hybrid; I have pts in everything except x-bow and horse archery. When I retire I plan on 'looming my favorite weapon-the heavy bastard. In singleplayer I've used the spiked staff almost exclusively; I love the 1h/2h weapons.
My plan is to go mostly 2H with a few points in shield (for archery charge) and maybe a few in 1H (I like to pull out the shield for back-to-the-flag defense and want to be able to swing 1H). Should I be converting any skill pts into attributes? I'm pretty sure I should have a bit more STR than AGI...

How about this:
Level 30
Strength: 18
Agility: 21
Converted Points: 8
Two Handed: 160
One Handed: 52
Ironflesh 3 (or Shield 1 Ironflesh 2)
Power Strike 6
Athletics 7
Weapon Master 7
You could use your bastard sword with a shield while moving up to the archers and then drop the shield and go pure 2hander medieval on them. I like using a 0 shield requirement Wooden Shield then dropping it and switching to axe when close enough to archers and throwers.
Also, here's a good thread to wade through for character builds: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,130.210.html (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,130.210.html)

Heavy Bastard sword, 50 wpf and you want him to actually fight? he will swing SOOO SLOW. And do almost no dmg at all. I'd go for this build:
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
Strength: 15
Agility: 21
Hit points: 50
Unused attribute points: 3
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 4
Athletics: 7
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 7
One Handed: 110
Two Handed: 140
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1
IMO it's the best build you can go with without losing all the fighting power. 2h/1h still will be slow, but not THAT slow.

Well, actually if you really want to use a bastard sword I'd completely forget about fighting onehanded. It has same damage as your standard onehander, but like 30% less speed just for 10 extra reach or so. Better idea: Carry a 2h sword, a shield and a long dagger with something like Dravics build (I personally don't like converting for shielder though, rather buy more shield and IF). This dagger isn't only for style, with shield it can work wonders vs light armored archers.

Thanks for the ideas so far. Yeah, I know that it's not the best option for 1H but it's a style thing for me. Alternately I'd switch to a German Longsword and already have a long dagger if I decide to go that route. Mostly I just need to figure out how to develop my stats.

Yeah, Dravic's build is probably the way to go if you want to use it 1h/2h. Before the patch, I liked using the regular bastard sword with 200+ wpf and always dropped my shield before fighting. Currently it seems a little bit too low damage vs. strength builds when there's higher damage swords available, but it's still fast and cheap for upkeep. At least it gives you the option to swing back as a 2hander while carrying a shield and moving up.
It'll be interesting to see how they handle the hybrid 2h/1h and 2h/polearm weapons if a wpf requirement is put in.
-
I guess that build looks good, but I may drop a few 1H skill points for 2H, and maybe one or two from Shield into IF. Or not, depending on the skill algorithm. but I got my GSS and am playing with that now to see how well I like it.

The way to make a proper 1H/2H with a single weapon is to do like me: use Langes Messer or the Fighting axe. Both have a 2H alt mode and decent stats in both modes.
The problem is that they are 90 reach weapons which means that you do not have a reach advantage. You have to have good athletics and light armor, or be a very good manual blocker. The Langes Messer have the polearm thrust in 2H so no lolstab. I kinda like it because it is fast and surprises most opponents so they fail the block, but it is extremely short. Overall, the Langes Messer in 2H is roughly like a west-style katana.
The fighting axe does not offer anything special in 2H except that it the only 2H axe which is not unbalanced and has some character to it.

You say you like the Spiked Staff in native, is that not the Goddendag in cRPG?
Goedendag 2884
weight 2.5
requirement 9
spd rtng 95
weapon length 117
swing damage 25, blunt
thrust damage 22 pierce
Can't use on horseback
Knockdown

Looks like it (I haven't played native in months since I got into multiplayer/cRPG) except that it was useable on horseback.

Playing around with the Calculator Pack I came up with a build:
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
* Strength: 21
* Agility: 18
* Hit points: 62
* Converted: 8
* Ironflesh: 3
* Power Strike: 7
* Shield: 2
* Athletics: 5
* Riding: 0
* Horse Archery: 0
* Power Draw: 0
* Power Throw: 0
* Weapon Master: 6
* One Handed: 90
* Two Handed: 140
* Polearm: 1
* Archery: 1
* Crossbow: 1
* Throwing: 1
Not quite like Dravic's but I think my Heavy Bastard needs a bit more oomph. Or I'll take his for its quickness.

I often play with my masterwork heavy bastard.
Ok its even faster then your not heirloomed one but i guess it shouldnt be very different regarding the build.
Personally i like 21/15 very much. Lots of IF and PS and your Sword is so fast that its not necessary to get more WPF.
Also working with your sword are 24/12; 21/18; 18/18 or 18/21.
Everything below 6 PS sucks cause of to many glances in my expierience with that sword.
I actually only use it as 2hand.

MW longsword is the best sword hands down. Once you've tried one you'll know. Its like a katana with better range and a good stab. Just pick one up in the duel server or if you're lucky enough to find one lying around and try it.
-
Problem with the longsword is that it is a bit light in comparison to bigger 2h weapons and polearms. You might suffer from the "stun effect" after blocking.

15 str
24 agi
5 PS
2 shield
8 ath
8 wm
120 2h
145 1h
most important tho is a mw wepon
