Title: Request to put overkill damage patch on siege
Post by: Penitent on August 08, 2012, 04:20:05 pm
Please make it so "overkill" damage is done to dead bodies on NA siege.

Thank you for your kind consideration!

I think they took that off the battle server, I was stabbing dead bodies like a crazy person yesterday and didn't notice it giving me any extra points (I noticed it two nights ago however).

And also removing pole stagger finally.

Well, there is a time limit and I believe a damage limit for hitting dead bodies, so that may be it.

That change is so minor though.  The overkill damage is a HUGE greatness, especially on seige maps.  It should be put there first!  I do understand the patch includes both changes though.  Both are welcome.

Please implement.  How much much do I have to "donate" to get this done? :)

Huesby, he isn't talking about getting extra points, he is talking about not getting smacked in the face because someguy tried to gank a kill a second too late.

Also NA3 could use this for strat battles and duel would really benefit from the removal of polestagger. Not that I care about my duel rating in the slightest, but just last night I had a duel against Rhaelys where he had a lucky chamber into polestagger fatal blow. That was not fun.

From what I understand all this may be an issue with NA servers.

** If devs could tell us that for sure, and if they need donations from us NA, that would be great - im sure many NA would donate to get into a better situation with all this.

Yeah, I'm talking about the patch before last that STILL isn't on NA seige.

Lets stay on topic here.  Duel, Strat, and all else can get a different thread...sorry. :)
We need this patch on NA seige asap.  Pls por favor s'il vous plait.

I would donate right now if I knew it would allow me to play the same version of the game other people are playing.  For reals, I have no problem with this.

And no, that isn't meant to be a "I want to pay to get the changes I want made".  It means "if a lack of funding is what is holding this up, we can help with that."

Well, afaik the whole problem is that the NA box is using linux which means the warband dedicated servers on it are running in wine (windows emulation).
A while back the updated dedicateded serverfiles were tested but switched back after one or three days due to instability (box lacking hardware wise probably due to extra load from wine and maybe incompatibility issues but not sure)

Since WSE2 only works with those updated files you are not only missing the improved stability (see strat battles) and performance but also the WSE2 features.
This is why you guys still got pole-stagger and no corpse damage absorption.

Now you got the reasons, that's all info I got though and it's probably not 100% accurate.

Whats the solution?  How can NA players help?

I blame LLJK as the NA boxes were originally provisioned by one of their members. DAMN YOU LLJK!! ::shakes fist::

Most interesting!

So, should I instead make a thread requesting NA seige to be moved from a linux to a windows server?  That seems...counter-intuitive somehow. :)

I do know from irc that chadz has found another dedicated hosting option but im not going to say anymore because i dont know what he would want divulged.

on another note...

DEVS - if it would help for NA players to donate funds to a specific NA server fund to help make up the relative cost increase between EU and NA servers, let us know.

Im sure some of us would rather pay some $$ than be stuck in the dark ages of the dark ages :)

oh noes I hope they don't move the servers to TX.

Now I have to make a thread requesting the servers to stay in chicago but be changed to windows server...

Oh man this is getting complicated. ;)

As long as seige gets fixed I'm happy player.

Thank you Meow.

Whats the solution?  How can NA players help?

Found a hosting company and offer stuff for prices that are not completely ridiculous?

Hard to tell, if that move to the datecenter in Dellas, TX is still up for discussion that might do the trick and seems affordable, will still need some testing.
Then again it would probably screw over a big part of the NA playerbase ping wise.

No idea what the plan is or the options are, overall I just wanted to make sure you guys know what the prob is and that we did not stop caring about NA.

Problem is most likely not the linux server but the hardware not being able to handle running the dedicated servers in wine since that is an extra performance hit.
Also requesting stuff won't work, you just gotta wait and see what happens.

Thank you, meow.
People fear what they do not know.  Now that I know, I am not longer afraid.

Just out of curiousity, is it possible to give these updated files to the community servers (ATS/crpg public? Both for battle and seige. Obviously, I don't know if their hardware is up for the task either.

I asked, and Meow has delivered.

Now I owe him tuna and/or catnip.

Just to make sure cause the "whole problem" part might have come out wrong in my explanation, the prob is not that the box is running linux! but that the hardware is not capable of running the new server software in wine due to hardware limitations.

Might be the same issue under windows, can't judge don't know the hardware specs.
cmp is your dude for details, I just got memory fragments from irc to work with

Time to celebrate with tuna and catnip!

P.S.: I do not think that experimental files will be given out to any clanserver for now.
Also not my thing to decide though.
