Title: Duel ranking/points feedback
Post by: Harald on August 05, 2012, 10:29:33 pm
I would like to hear what you guys think about the duel ranking/points so far. It's only been live since a few days but i want to get some early feedback in case it needs some major changes (which might require a point reset). I'm interested in things like if it is too sensitive, points given per duel or how easy/difficult it is to maintain a top ranking (my first-hand experience is limited to the 150-200 points range, 200+ only if i got lucky for a few duels in a row).

The duel system is rly good to start of with. It works pretty well. It adds a purpose to dueling, a goal. (I hope u know what i mean)

The rly good high ranks cant just feed on peasants, hell we cant even feed that much on medium fighters. So it forces u to fight players at ur ranking/points to get somewhere. Which is rly great. Obviously u can try and find a bad player with 50 points lower than u, but he will only give u 1. The system works great here aswell, because if u lose once. U will lose alot of points, probably around 17.

I have 416 points atm, and i am currently number 1. But it is not easy to stay up here, i am for sure gonna lose it tomorrow. Since u have to play perfect to stay up here.

So overall i rly like the point/ranking system. Its also a sweet detail that its added on ur character on c-rpg.net. But i would like 1 thing, being able to choose between ranked and unranked duels.

Indeed we need unranked duels because high rankers just wont duel  low rankers for fear of losing loads of points, hard to improve if you cant fight the best.

+1 for separated non-ranking dueals.

I think this ranking bring smile on some faces, but mostly brings anger after loosing with someone who starts with 30/9 gs STF.

Maybe list mains only?

i think its alright, but i agree we need non-ranked duels as well so people can fuck around without losing all the points they accumulated in serious mode... also, i think its kinda BS that you can fight someone and get 0 points but if you lose they get 20~. this might not be as big a deal later, but right now youll see good players who havent been on duel lately who pop in for the first time and even if you beat em 5 times, you lose once and it hurts. maybe do something like... if the player would get 0 points for winning, then the most they can lose for losing is 5~. and say they would only get 1 for winning, then maybe a max loss of 10~. right now I will duel anyone regardless, but it gets really annoying sometimes when you drop 60 points despite winning way more than you lose against good players just cause they dont have many points yet.

It's pretty damn well done, better than I expected.

Do we need it though? It's fun, but I'm pretty sure most experienced duellers know exactly how they compare to others and it might prove a barrier to people to just using duel to improve, which is it's ultimate goal in my opinion.

I think it's fine as it is but unranked duels might be fun because I get a lot of guys unwilling to duel me because they think they will lose which I can't blame them. First day I got in duel I beat three high ranking players and ended up around 250 points then they wouldnt duel me anymore :(

It works fine, but it seems I don't lose points when I figth with high lvl chars. Which is good (or I migth be mistaken) anyway, good jøb.

It's pretty lonely here on the top, place 1004. The higher the better, right?

Sure, and how about checking this (http://forum.meleegaming.com/suggestions-corner/dueling-ranked-and-unranked/) thread?

And my opinion... Well, it sucks in one way. I challenge some decent guy, and I'm not focused, so I lose. In the result I lose 19 points. To regain them I'd have to won about 5 fights in a row. A little bit too much IMO.

on 400+ rank u have to win 10-15 duels(if u duel with everyone) to regain your rank.  :D

If all of them has more than 300 points yes, so they each give about 1.

First I think it was really awesome but then later people just begin to make chars (full STR) just for duelling which atleast in my case doesn't really feel fun. People start using the cheapest tactics more than before like constant backpedaling which huge ass weapon like glaive. Also more highly ranked duelists doesn't want to duel you because they afraid losing points. No-one really wants to test anything and so on and you cant really train if you cant fight with the best.

Remove the messages you get in game about point gain/loss, just let it work in the background. That might get rid of the "no, I don't want to duel you, you're too good, I'll just lose points".

I've probably spent < 1 hour waiting between strat battles dueling, and I have ~350 points this evening.  It seems a bit too fast and fleeting TBH, I think it would be better if the duel system was a bit slower progressing up or down, so it doesn't represent a flavor of the week but more lasting standings.

Also I do agree it would be nice not to have ranked duels...especially if you're trying things that are new or deal with people who won't duel you when you're burning time.

As *looks at character rank* number 117th on the NA duel ladder, I like it so far. I haven't spent a lot of time in the duel server but when I am in there, people do cheap things to try and win. Like attacking you before the countdown is over which is really a dirty thing to do. Its a cheap trick that only works because so few people do it but I expect it to be more common soon enough.

Would also think that duel rankings should only apply to your main and none of your alts or your STF.

I like having it apply on alts, since my main is basically useless for dueling.  An option to make your character opted out would not be a bad idea though.

The opt out option might work. Just on one character?

And for the alt thing, I just don't want to see people making alts that push their main through the rankings. Its the name of their main up there and thus the main character should be the only one that can gain or lose points in duels. Just my opinion.

It puts the name of the alt up there if you're playing on an alt.

How does that dueling work? You just take duels on the duel servers or what?

Yes. The points are being added or substracted after each won/lost fight.

Wow, why would somebody not go for every duel?

I thought its about the duelling itself and not about points?

Haha, ppl. can now show the world how much the size of their e-peen is correlated to stastitcs.....not the enjoyment of a game or a good duel (even when loosing it).

Let the poor, cowardly behaviour begin.
