Hi, I'm starting a new cavalry build, I'm interested in knowing which lance would you guys recommand?
Having a difficult time deciding weather to go with a +3 Heavy Lance or +3 Lance or +3 Great Lance
The horse I'm riding is a War Horse.

Heavy Lance or Lance.
-
light lance has some terrible hit boxes, so yes...use heavy or regular
-
Regular pretty good if you got no wpf in polearms
-
Heavy all the way in my opinion, but with recent changes to lancing I have to advise not going lancer. The limited swing arc on the lance is just plain silly causing you to have to run directly at your target. Doing so with nearly any 2h or polearm they can just thrust the horse and will outreach you. Then the turn speed nerf makes it impossible to adjust after releasing. Also, it seems to ahve messed with registry of the hit because I swing straight through people on a semi regular basis now. It is still effective if you just want to stab people in the butt but the mechanics are just plain wierd right now. I have 7 gens of cav experience.

Personally I use the regular lance due to its ability to thrust a lot faster enabling me to couch, barrel towards unaware archer heads and swing quick enough to strike one or two. With 1 wpf, well-aimed head thrusts will insta-kill most targets if you're going full speed.

Throwing lance

Alright, thanks for the replies.
Has anyone ever tried the Great Lance? Seems to be fairly unpopular.
It's the longest for sure and the length is ideal for couch lancing ain't it? Perhaps it requires more skill to be good at it.
It does extreme piercing damage, it is slower, and it is not meant for melee combat (due to no side swings), but I do have my 1 handed sword to deal with when going close combat.
I figure the longer distance you can be away from your target with a couched lance is the better, due to them being able to kill you pretty much in 1 slice (+% speed amplified damage) if you ride near them.

Heavy lance is only lance.
-
Great Lance is for native SP
I used it for some days, this lance is like a magnet for enemy cav seeking the easy kill, and they got their kills as you cannot use the couch in 80% of situations
But if you want a good lance, take the normal lance with +3, it makes more damage and is quicker than heavy lance (only 5 cm shorter) plus you can defend yourself after being dehorsed

I haven't used the great lance in awhile, but unles it has changed it is a couch only weapon. The faster lance puts you at a large disadvantage fighting other cav(thrust is quicker so you have a shorter window when the weapon is fully extended, and its shorter so you have to be even better with the timing vs other cav). It is also shorter and with recent changes that is really going to hurt you engaging anything other than a "free kill". You need to get used to the timing on the heavy and you will be more effective at anything you choose to engage. Maybe if you go for the 7 riding and use an arabian the quick thrust might be slightly more useful. However, I feel if you are engaging targets you have to "quick thrust" to hit you aren't playing a lancer properly. If you are on a heavy slower horse(like the War Horse you plan to use), then heavy is the only option.

Okay, thanks : )

it is couch only, and gets outreached by the heavy lances thrust.
if you want to become a couch lancer only, get the arab horse with morst riding possible. but its a fun build at most, not long term
