Title: Server Hosting?
Post by: Skyline on July 26, 2012, 06:43:23 pm
Anyone know a decent company to look at for hosting a server? Or possible someone here willing to host?  I could do it myself but i dont think either of my connections are statics.

Where do you want to host a server?

TX area, but would be ok with anywhere in the states tbh as long as it was stable.

We've just today been considering moving the NA servers to texas, because we found an interesting hosting company there (less money, same power):

Chi-town is where it's at.  I think the servers should stay, for the good of me everyone.

We do not connect home hosted servers, if you want a clan server that is connected to the DB so you get gold and xp you will need a dedicated server in a data center and a full admin team that is aware of all rules for DB connected servers.
Just FYI.

Isn't Austin even better on top of that?

Either way, I won't complain. 20 ping isn't very different from 15 ;)

Heh, limestone networks. To be honest, the name itself becomes fishy regarding the quality of connection.

I don't need a solid 180 ping again, I actually liked being decent.

If the servers go to Texas I will stop playing cRPG; im pretty sure bryc3ee will stop playing as well.

Ach, mein kampf fur anstandig ping.

What?
I got a 140 ping when I played on the NA servers... from germany.
And my normal ping is 30 on EU servers.

The networks in North America is shit compared to EU. I can get better ping in Russia than Canada.

Chicago servers appease eastern, central and variably* (the five or six people in)mountain time zones including all of Canada.

Texas servers appease pacific, mountain and variably(based on location) central time zones - this doesn't benefit Canada.

I could go into depth on the actual network routing that NA deals with, however generally based on the network map of NA, Chicago remains the unofficial center of USA. If I had to pick the lesser evil I would stick with Chicago as it covers the majority of player population. If NA is lacking monetary support just post a request for donations and you'll get it.

note: Yes this is biased reply but not a biased message. I live in Michigan and of course would rather play on a 16 ping vs a 40 ish ping. However, many more will not be so lucky.

I'm at 90+ ping all the time in west coast. I would love to get 60 ping. Couldn't be any worse than the Chicagocrasheseveryotherdayeastcoastmasterrace servers we have at the moment.
