This may belong in Off Topic way down at the bottom of the forum, but I thought this might be relevant info for all of us in cRPG.
Been doing some reading and hear a lot of different things - which is best at this point?
TS3, Mumble, or Ventrilo?
Which one is best?
- latency
- cpu usage
- setup ease
- configuration
- customization
- usability
- stability
- permissions
- cost / liscensing
- etc
-
Never used Mumble and Vent was good when i used it years agoooo.
Only got TS3 installed atm though.

no one voted yet? :(

I like vent the best, it is pretty simple and I have been using it for like 7 years. Teamspeak is good, I just never took the time to figure all the stuff out other then the basics. I have never used mumble.
-
I like vent and TS3 about the same. I never used mumble, though I have heard mixed things about it.
-
I only like TS3. Also prefered TS2 before.
-
Teamspeak 3
Mumble gives voice that look like aliens castrated
-
I've used Ventrilo for a very long time. Though I find TS3 better since it's actually consistently updated unlike Ventrilo.
I like all of the features of TS3 but I like how simple Vent is. I'm mixed, though I do believe it will be better in the future with the updates.

Price wise:
Mumble > TeamSpeak > Ventrilo
Modability:
Mumble > TeamSpeak > Ventrilo
Really dumb users:
Mumble > TeamSpeak > Ventrilo
What's actually Best?
Mumble. It has the lowest latency and superior sound quality.
Sadly, people are too stubborn to get off ventrilo because :change:

I have all 3 installed, vent's layout is probably the biggest piece of shit i've ever seen. Mumble is ok, TS is most common, so i'm going with TS3.
-
Never had problems with TS3, so I've never tried the other two, obvious choice.
-
I've tried Mumble in the past about 3 months ago and found the sound quality to complete shit.

SURPRISE, SERVER CAN SET VOICE QUALITY CODEC THEY WISH TO USE!
Mumble if quality is your main concern, TS for average users & admin convenience. Vent is just too old and clunky these days even though base quality is better than TS.
-
good info, but why is no one voting??
-
Ventrilo is obviously superior..
There is a reason this is the ONLY gaming community i've ever been in that uses TS...........................
-
They all get the job done, and all have good quality once the admin actually sets a decent codec.
-
good info, but why is no one voting??
Because people have mixed feelings so just don't vote.

TeamSpeak has a great user interface, looks nice, and is easy to use. I prefer it, but I've never used Mumble. Sounds like it lives up to its name.
