Title: Shields Requiring Agility?
Post by: John_Merz on July 24, 2012, 06:00:09 am
First off I'd like to say I didn't know whether to post this in the suggestion forum or here in general. If needed I will re-address the topic there.

I was looking up some build types today using a calculator and came across the fact that points in Shield require having points in Agility. How does that even make sense? Giving credit to the Warband community I'll assume most of you have felt how much weight a shield can bear on one's arm, especially over time. Why then does our game require us to be more agile to hold a wood/metal board strapped to an arm?  It makes sense to have agility contribute to the speed which someone is able to block with the shield, but not in holding one.

I was curious if it had to do with balancing issues of there being too many Skills attached to strength and it worked out better if Shield was added to Agility to make it more even.  There are 9 Skills being split 5 in Agility and 4 into Strength. It wouldn't hurt to switch Shield from Agility to Strength, aside from people with points in Shields possibly having extra points in Agility to build up their skills.

Thoughts?

Strength previously dictated shield, it was changed as a balance thing.

Also I would like to point out that if strength is more muscle mass, agi is the equivalent of cardio. Because muscular endurance is determined by your body's ability to utilize oxidative metabolic pathways to generate energy it makes sense that being more "agile" (having a more fully developed set of oxidative/glycolitic metabolic pathways to generate sustained energy) will allow you to keep your shield raised longer. Also, the more muscle you have, the more oxygen your body needs, and with only muscle mass and an under-developed cardiovascular system, low VO2 max, etc. you would tire far quicker than someone who had more points in "agility".

Think about this, do you want to see tkov having 500 million 36/3 huscarl users with unbreakable shields and shitloads of ps/if?

Nah, cause shields absorb the arrows and bolts and they don't have to block. Much worse than sosarian or those other str crutches.
