How you guys run around in cloth. I either get shot or teammates blow me away with swords and spears.
If I flank, I am le shoot.
If I frontline, I am le Tee Kay.
If I cower in back, I don't die, but for the most part feel pretty useless.
-
you should try to hide and backstab with high athletics this is ... quite funny :)
-
Go balls deep into enemy lines and weave in and out in between them to cause mass destruction. You'll die, sure, but you won't even have to swing to bring 2 or 3 guys with you. :D
-
Its quite easy to play with cloth armor, just not chase archers or run into more than 3 people, take a long weapon and backpedal ;)

Total.
Fucking.

pick your fights/targets better. stay on the outskirts/flank of major engagements

It's all about the athletics. I have a 1-h no shield agi build that does really well. With high athletics it's easy to run in, run out and stab. You can dodge projectiles pretty easily too.
-
I noticed I tend to get shot at more wearing cloth armour or light armour. Almost never get shot at wearing heavier armour. I guess even archers want a good K:D. :)

Hmm...first off, hi Dexx...I use 7 ath but don't necessarily run around in cloth...I use the lightly armored Steppe Armor for style and usually a wooden practice sword (pretty dang fast)...dodging arrows is usually ridiculously easy...so i just hide behind shielders on the front line, then when they're engaging, I flank the attackers/close range archers. Then I loot enemy 2Hs and use that in duels/backpedal + weaving against more than 1 opponent.
Sometimes I do extraordinarily well (hunting archers), sometimes I get shot up, but with Steppe Armor and 4 IF, I can still take 2-3 arrows depending on bow/arrow. I don't wear helmets, so every so often headshot kills me...oh well. I like hair.
Since you use a big whopping polearm (pike [so easy to spot flanking too]? try the staffs :D), you're probably slowed down quite a bit.

All I use is a straw hat, the monk robe, turkish boots, and leather gloves.
Usually it is fine to use cloth armor if you have high agility and athletics so you can dodge arrows and cavalry. I have 24 AGI 8 athletics.
It's actually a difficult challenge to learn how to survive and be effective with cloth armor. You have to know your surroundings and obstacles on the map, when to take cover, where to take cover; plan your attack point, and study the location of your enemies.
Feel free to engage in melee combat but if cavalry or ranged pay attention to you, try to find a safe place to avoid them and choose your next target. It helps to learn how to manual block effectively to avoid taking melee hits. And last of all, try to stay a safe distance away from the point where your allies and enemies meet in combat (the chokepoint). Flank around the main infantry group and take out the lone stragglers one at a time. It's crucial to pay attention to the battlefeild because just 1 hit could be an instant KO.
If your AGI is lower than about 15 or atheltics lower than 5, you will find it extraordinarily hard to master survival in cheap armor.
If you care about K/D I reccomend you dont even try it. Consider it like a turtle trying to cross the street.

Basically what other people have said, but with the inclusion of: you are going to be le shot; you are going to be le tee kay'd. It's just going to happen, and a lot of times it will kill you. Playing as a 15 strength 6 weight armor wearer with no ironflesh, I am murdered by my teammates (usually through no fault of theirs) at least once a map. At least.
-
don't forget le horse bump that take half your hp.
-
Just stick with the corrazina.

Thanks for the input, everyone, but two things:
I'm looking for information as to how to do this WITHOUT agility :P I might be the only moron out there with a str leaning build running around in cloth, but I kind of find it fun every now and then. Prolonged armor use chafes.
Also, Winterly never responds to me hitting on her in server. Why is this.
-
I spent a long time running around at 21-15 shielder in leather, no real special way to go about it but stick around periphery a bit more and avoid teammates. Either way you will be 1 or 2 shotted a lot tho instead of taking like 5+ hits at 50+ armour.
-
Flank and choose your battles. Use terrain to your advantage to stay out of sight longer (stay high on hills without going over the summit, keep to shrubs). If you get spotted, run to your friends, or, if you're classy, run through the enemies without pausing and just keep going.
-
Dexxta I tried it and it sucks ass before you get atleast 6ath, you need 7 to fight archers
but yea its all about picking your fight, dont even bother playing on cav map, its not fun at all ;)
-
Dexxta you remember the gnome guy(s) that used to play battle a lot? Think they had like 10 athletics, were tenacious yet flighty, had the super powered gnome hats, and also possibly used bamboo spear? All I remember is the buttstabs. So many buttstabs.
Edit: Woops, missed your clarification post. Way back I used to watch Goretooth play when I was dead on siege, he would get a lot of sneaky kills, basically by just biding his time. Armor and mobfests aside, I'd see him taking less travelled routes, waiting for the right moment, a lot of times in transition areas like stairwells. If you just hunt down strays that haven't grouped up with their team, you can help cut down a lot of potential enemy support.

You know who also wears cloth armor? Archers ...
The masterminds of balance ...
-
don't forget le horse bump that take half your hp.
That! I fucking hate that!
-
Use high athletic for backstab as suggested before. But also use camouflage

Don't be redundant, his avatar says all that and more.
