I've been wondering, what is THE MOST cost effective polearm under 7k?
I'm going with the fauchard but i want to know if other people think differently.
-
The pitchfork. All the rest depends on your style and what you consider effective. If you just want to rack kills with your weapon and want it to be under 7k, grab a Long Bardiche.
-
Fauchard is a great weapon, otherwise a hafted blade. I also use a long hafted knobbed mace, it's good fun swinging with that thing!
-
Long Bardiche is pretty nice. Good length, cut damage, bonus against shields, pierce thrust for rearing horses. I'm also a big fan of the Long Axe, great dueling polearm, and the Military Scythe is a very nice middle ground between Scythe and Glaive.
-
That depends... a lot.
Basically everything between the Hafted Blade and the Long Bardiche (excluding the Lance of course) are great infantry weapons. It just depends on your personal preference.

Long Bardiche might be the best weapon in the game period, nonetheless cheap poles.

Tried long spear?
-
bamboo spear
-
Long Bardiche is very good but don't think it does rear horses, remember someone saying it is 1 unit too short (need to be 141+)
Theres only a few polearms that I think are complete trash or not worth using over something else, they have their uses or are balanced with cost. Most of the spears are pretty decent (even boar spear for 1.2k, cheap war spear), bamboo spear for length, military scythe or fauchard as cheap glaive type weapons, quarter staff, both lances, pike, long spear, war spear, battle fork. All pretty decent weapons
-
And, ofcourse, the Red Tassle spear is a more then decent spear.
-
Long hafted knobbed mace.
Fast, blunt, knockdown, medium reach. What's not to love?

Agreed I've had at least 600 knockdowns when I was gen1
-
Try out Light Lance, since the buff some months ago its an even better weapon than before. It has high damage and a high reach.

I think I've seen people rear horses with them before on NA1.

That was probably a GREAT Long Bardiche. That one is long enough to reach horses.
-
Long spear is best spear. Just started using that bad boy.
Once GODDAMNSAMUELLJACKSON is at a high enough level, the pike's coming out. Huehueahea.

The butthurt the Pike causes is truly glorious.

Agreed, long bardiche is one of my favorite polearm weapons, and it's just under 7k, seems way underpriced, love the damage and the 140 length.
-
Thanks for the responses, never thought of giving that old bardiche a try.

Long Bardiche can't rear horses because it's only 140 reach. Needs to be 141 or greater, like the Poleaxe.

Oh damn, that's a bummer.

Longspear, light lance, long bardiche. All are AMAZING footman polearms for any class. (Pikeman, hoplite, 2h wolololo respectively)
-
Quarter Staff, everyone is wrong but me!
-
Light lance  Faster and stronger than bamboo and legit use on horse + couch. Great for horse thieves

Shorter, though. Bamboo fills a very special niche: longest 2 slot anti-cav weapon for infantry. A good weapon nonetheless, but their uses are different.

Quarterstaff is winner here. Good length + knockdown

Yes but it still have enough lenght to be used as second line support weapon.

It did back when I used it, but they changed the rear requirement to 141 length a couple patches ago. It does so much damage you can one-shot most horses with a right swing anyway. Long Bardiche does about 15-20% more damage than a Poleaxe on swings, while costing almost half. And you still get an adequate thrust attack (it's not deadly like on the poleaxe, but still a good change of pace).

Short spear.

"Spear" spear.

Light Lance is fine for anti-cav too. You have to time it good, but its often underestimated. And after the speed buff a few month ago its a really good infantry weapon, fast and long. I started using it when I was cav a few gens and found it a good inf weapon too (slower back than). Its my favourite weapon now.
