Just like any other classes. 18/18, 21/18, 21/15 and so on...

And Tore, the thread is called "Best balance shield build" not "most ridiculous shield build"...

Yep that's what I use - grab heavy or light armour, you won't be too slow in the former and you'll be quite fast in the latter (higher strength allows one to handle heavier equipment more easily from my understanding), you're still heavily dependant on speed bonus for damage facing most opponents, so footwork and holds are critical here (unless you're a turdly steel pick user, in which case you are a terrible person. Oh and don't take a scimetar either, come on, BE A MAN!)

You don't want less than 7 PS, anything less and it starts to get ridiculous fighting some of the 30 STR tincans... Once you get comfortable, try 24-15. Also you don't really need 5 WM, 2 WM is enough for one weapon.

I wouldn't play 1h with less then 6 ath, so I go 18/18 like konrax except 6 IF 5 WM. Its possible that 21/18 is better but I don't see one powerstrike being better then iron flesh and weapon master.

Im using steel pick and huscarl getting kickslashes because i need to get close to those guys and with huscarl,5 athletics and heavy armor its hard to make proper footwork but thanks to my 7 IF and +3 mamluke mail their kick/slashes don't hurt me much while my leftswing from +3 steel pick with 7ps kill them :)
I don't suggest 1handers to use cut damage type weapons i suggest using weapons with knockdown since they are balanced, fast and they penetrate armor.
When i was a 2hander i always spammed the shit out of 1handers with scimitars and such because their hits mostly glance while my hits with greatsword kills them :D but if you have blunt or pierce weapon , those 2handers will  die or run like chickens when you hit them :D

All this is good advice! And hell, going heavy as a shielder makes one dramatically reliant on footwork, especially with a short weapon (still, the PICK is not for MEN!) love all these two handers whinging about a shield being easy mode - try it. Unless he doesn't know EXACTLY what he's doing a shielder will be spammed, out ranged & kicked to a bloody pulp, even by mediocre players. I've played both shielder and two hander for multiple generations and the sheer versatility of the latter makes battle much, much easier.

Love being a shielder currently though. Oh and cut damage all the way!

I take the 6wm because I like to rock my lordly plate so the extra wpf helps stay fast and tough.

+3 italian, +3 iberian, +3 knightly heater shield, +3 churburg, and +3 plate mittens, and a +1 hornskull bascinet

Like everyone here is pointing out, try a build you like, then tweak it the next gen.

Ive done the 21-15, my last gen was 24-15 with 8ps, and it was good but I still miss the smidgen of speed that keeps me alive more then the extra hp and damage does.

use 24/15 or try this what i am going  to use now.

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

Strength: 21
Agility: 18
Skills to attributes: 8
Ironflesh: 2
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 6
Weapon Master: 3
One Handed: 133

Get some lighter armor, nice gauntlets, havy head armor, some of knightly shields, and KAS or NCS. Rest of gear is crap. You can try warhammer, military hammer or iberian mace, but that is too short, and too slow. You need speed.

2 ironflesh is not enough in my opinion.
Main problem being a shielder is friendly hits , your team damage you more than the enemy team.
You can block like 120 degrees infront of you but your teammates hurt you too much from the remaining 240 degrees :)
You can't blame them all the time though.
For example when you fight against an enemy shielder , if your teammate with great maul comes to "help"(or in other words "1 hit the guy you try to kill for few minutes") you should move away and let him get the kill otherwise you can get killed  .
Worst teammates are spearmen , they stick their spear to your arse so deeply that you cannot ever sit again, hell they hurt too much lol.

You have 21 str and 2 if gives you 60 hit points. That is the same ammount of health you will get if you use 24 str build.
I had 24 str without if and it was fine. If you use 21str and 7 if you will have 70 hitpoints, and 10 hitpoints are not worth 7 skill points.
21 and 24 builds are too slow, and predictable it is so easy for enemy to block it.
Avoid clusterfuck,or if you realy want that kill don't go in middle because you will get tw and ppl who are from sides will always kill enemy before you. There is also this trick i use i just stand in middle with my overhead ready, and teammates are just tw eachother, enemy is just moving arround wounding them and when he comes closer to you,you release attack and streal kill from 10 ppl and get out un hurt.
