Title: 2h Sword STR Build Advice
Post by: DerFurst on July 16, 2012, 07:47:14 am
This thread is both my introduction and a question. Perhaps that could be interpereted as me introducing you all to a question?

I started playing cRPG at the beginning of the week and was immediately hooked. I'm a competant 2h dueler, being able to block and feint to my heart's content. However, there was something I immediately noticed. Being good at Native was one thing, but skill will only get you so far in cRPG. So with that in mind, I need a little help deciding what final build is best for what I'm looking to do.

In most siege battles, agi ninjas are good for hit and run, but are squishy and do too little damage to be practical. What I'm looking for is a STR build that can hit hard and is fast enough not to be easily overtaken by multiple enemies. With that in mind, I have a few build ideas to run through:

31/9, 27/12, 24/15, 21/18

I don't care too much for running heavy armor, and find that medium armor is more than enough to soak up stray hits. I'm only concerned about damage output at the price of speed. Which one is the best for what I'm looking for? If I've left out a decent STR build, please suggest another one.

I'd say 21/18 is the best for good damage/speed balance, 24/15 is also very decent.

21/18 damage output is perfectly fine and you will be pretty fast compared to a lot of other melee if you are wearing medium armor.

When you are leveling, I suggest getting yourself to 21/15. After playing as 21/15, figure out if you want more damage (finish your leveling to 24/15) or want more speed (finish your leveling to 21/18).

30/9 in light armor. You move as fast and take as many hits as a balanced build but do more damage.

21/18 is probably the best choice (although it's more of a balanced build than strength).

6 ath will give you a decent shot at preventing yourself from getting surrounded. You have to go more agi-heavy to prevent this completely, though.

Im 24/12' full if/ps/wm/ath

4 points left, i threw them in riding..
Btw, this is MY build, it might not be that efficient and you wont run super fast but I dont mind it..
It's up to you :)

what weapon are you planning on using DerFurst?

that would determine what build I would suggest...

Not sold on my favorite weapon yet. I've found that the Longsword, Highland Claymore, and Danish Greatsword are all great potential looms.

Had more success with the danish than longsword, but wonder if length is something I should give up for the claymore's extra stopping power.

i use MW longsword personally (not very viable till MW).  but it is short, so you will have to have high athletics to close properly and be able to maneuver...being able to block helps too but you said you do well with that.

if you're wanting to just nail people and you like swords, id just go with highest cut you can...so probably something like claymore.  also its a bit shorter than danish so it wont get stuck so much places.

if you go claymore, something like 24/15 wouldnt be too bad.  21/18 if you wanted to be a little faster moving.

im personally 21/21 (at level 32)  i can show you how to do that if you like.

not a bad idea to carry a blunt or pierce weapon too like a mace for heavily armored opponents.  especially if you use a longsword

With 27/12 I could kill most people in one or two hits (using holds, aiming for facial features) and still be able to outmaneuver mobs if necessary, it does however require some awareness / planning in movement, it's important to understand WHERE the enemy mobs are moving and WHEN they'll reach you.

Having played several generations with both Claymore and Danish, I can tell you one thing : the Claymore's broad, bright blade is easier to block than a thin dark one. Doesn't sound like much but it definitely makes a difference, that and the stab. Good god the stab - in fact, go for a German if that's your thing.

Claymore for slashing
Danish for both(to lesser effect)
German for thrusting

All of them are great swords(lol) and can be used to great effect, what I used to do is carry a Danish and a longsword, using Danish in mobs or against heavy targets and dueling with the longsword.

But really, play what you like and have fun.
