Title: Two Worlds 2
Post by: Overdriven on July 15, 2012, 02:59:07 pm
Just bought this on steam sale, played an hour and already decided it was a very very good buy for £5.

First few hours is awesome, later becomes boring. But I still finished it.

Game has some truly hardcore old school side quests like that one where you're searching tombs.

Fun game really. Very different from things like Skyrim etc, but fun.

I was thinking about buying it but then I read in here - got the impression that it's more on the mediocre side. Did I make a mistake not buying it? :/

Well I'm now 8 hours in and still really liking it! It's a nice looking game, fairly decent storyline and presents a good challenge in places.

Have you played the first Two Worlds? If so how similar is it? I didn't care for the fighting style. Probably haven't changed it much or at all but it seemed like fun but the fighting was too bad for me to buy.

Apparently (from reading the reviews) it's very different to the original and the original wasn't rated very well. The melee system isn't really any better or worse than Skyrim. It's standard right click block, left click attack with counter attacks on successful blocks if your quick. Archery is quite auto-aimy, I haven't tried magic much though I hear it's quite good.

Interesting. Thanks.

Most people hated magic cards system but I loved it because it's another hardcore aspect of the game. A little bit gamebreaking too.

You see, in order to make a spell you have to combine magic cards. And there's barely any tutorial for that ingame, that's why people hated it.

It would not be a mistake. Id say go for it. Its a damn fine game. The point is that its very different from your average RPGs like Skyrim, Risen etc etc. I uninstalled the game 2 times when I was just at start, cause it felt too wierd. Third time I installed I finished it and even replayed it and had craploads of fun. The towns and places seem much more alive than in Bethesta games, but yea, its not for everyone.

Yeah I really love the atmosphere of it. It's a lot nicer than Skyrim, Oblivion ect from that aspect. At first I had trouble with the melee system and getting used to it, just because it can feel a bit weird sometimes. I decided to stick to achery. But after stumbling across some good weapons I'm beginning to try it more and really enjoying it now.

I also like the crafting system and alchemy system. Both quite interesting.

Yeah that's the reason I strayed away from magic and have focused on archery with duel wielding. I'm sure I'll give magic more of a go at some point though.

It's a really shitty game with a really shitty (and campy) story. Even the graphics make it look like it was made in 2004. I pirated this game last fall and got to the part where they lead you to their tower/headquarters thing before I promptly decided it wasn't even worth the download. Witcher 2 is far superior.

Lol wut....Witcher 2 graphics are only a little better. There's not much in it. Some of the armour textures are a lot nicer than Witcher 2.

I love Witcher 2 but that's a bit of a dumb comparison.

They're both fantasy RPGs within a year from eachother, how is it a dumb comparison? It goes beyond art style, the entire game is a low poly uglyfest.

I don't see overly that many differences. Maybe I'm not picky enough  :P

You cant compare the 2. Witcher 2 had waaaay higher budget and was 100% story, while Two Worlds 2 was also about screwing around abit.

I kinda agree about Two worlds 2 having a shit story. It was your average kill evil king blablabla, dark magic blablabla, save woman in trouble etc typical kind of story. I loved the game thou, the crafting and item enchanting system was tons of fun, not to mention the atmosphere in the world felt soo alive. But yea......like I said, its not for everyone.

From what I understand, the main appeal of 2W2 is the coop multiplayer.... not the "story".

Only reason I was even considering playing 2 worlds to begin with was to play co-op with a friend. THought it'd be awesome.

I like this game. Magick system is pretty epic and unlike Skyrim I actually finished this one. The online shit is cool too. Just not enough time to play all these fun games. I really should quit my job

I played the singleplayer as mellee char and it was quite fun, tho it was failry easy after about 3hours into the game, not sure if its because of the crafting or if i was simply too strong since i killed everything (exept civies, unless doing so for the lulz). Magic seems like the best ive seen in any games so far, the sheer ammount of combinations is ridiculous. Ranged seemed a bit low unless perhaps used in multi.

How is the multi these days? Playercount? Coop only or are there some "modes"?
