Title: Remove ~90% of the voice comands
Post by: Banok on July 06, 2012, 12:41:04 am
there just too many, and too many key presses needed makes them. all I want to do is quickly tell someone they are about to take a sword in the ass and there is still no simple "look out!" or "watch your back!", but there is tons of crap we really dont need like "i'm attacking the catapult". which means pressing so many buttons gets me killed.

they are way easier to use in tf2/pvkii, so I'm suggesting we make it more like those games. you hit Q then the menu has options 1 to  max 10 you activate with the number keys.. and so we only have a few voice commands, only ones we actually need. and put a cooldown on them!

1. whistle for pny
2. look out!
3. Charge!
4. retreat!
5. shield wall
6. taunt - for the dogs!
7...
8...
9...
0. menu.

I mean really what other commands do we actually need? only the first 5 really, and the menu.

We need all of them, learn to use them instead of being a lazy ass bitch who'd rather want 90% of something removed than having to memorize some real simple shit.

Indeed, We need more then just 10 commands...
You forgot: keep your formation, Hold, defend the flag, incoming from (all directions/ classes) Archers, infantry, cav, attack siege tower etc
There is just way too many to put in 10 commands, on top of that most ppl that play longer have the ones they think are important memorized.

Advise from me, get a seperate program to make macro's for the 10 commands you want, saves us all the trouble. Does someone know the name of one of those programms to help this guy? (i know they r there but im not using one myself atm)

keep formation / hold are inter changeable but ok... we'll put that on 7 - I left a gap for a reason.

defend flag on 8

We dont need so much detail on incoming, Look out! is fine, I don't need to know what it is if its about to backstab me, I just need to turn around.

so now we are on 8. so yeah pretty sure we can fit everything on 10.

the commands arent just for single players, if you are in a strat battle, you warn your team for incoming cav from the right or left, same when their inf is moving you warn the team by saying inf incoming from the "direction"

Keep your formation and hold are 2 different things, if a shieldwall is moving and falling apart a bit, you can say keep your formation. They will continue to move but will keep in formation. Hold simply means stand still.
And like that there are situations in which any of the commands can be used.

Use autohotkey like the guy suggested and you have the same result for you, while we still have all command available.

Btw +1 for adding the Look out!  command! good idea

80% of my gameplay on siege servers consists of spamming voice commands so please don't take them out (especially not the useless ones).

It would be even better if we could keep them all, but organize them into categories so we could easily access the commands from each categ--

Wait.

I haven't played strat since when it first came out, but TS was kind of manditory even back then. point is invalid.

I can set up macro easy with just my keyboard, I used to have one that spammed quotes from monty pythons in chat whenever I killed with my black knight, no one remember? good times, NI

but I honestly think they should make these voice commands easier to use/more acessible, it would improve the game. having so dam many just makes them pretty useless, they lose all meaning - it just becomes chatter.

AI sieges...

...also...
so, you claimed you could fit the prementioned shit into your ten, well, ya' know, now we just need space for QML, QMU, QMP, QMD, QMV, and I'm pretty sure there is also one that muted the chat, we need that one too, and QQY and QQN are also pretty fucking essential, thank you is nice to have, as well as shut up, and all them other things, really, this is a retarded suggestion.

Definitely yes, there is way too many atm. Less commands, better quality.

I agree. The old voice commands were much better.

My point is pretty valid... You say you didnt play strat since it first came out, thats noticable. On ai sieges there is often no ts, and even on battles from factions they are needed.

Like i said, if you are used to it its easy to use, i dont see how changing this would make it easier...

Then make macro's? A lot of players like the voice commands how they are and dont want less... You can simply make macro's and there you go, your problem is solved and we dont have to settle for less... Or are you too lazy to make macro's as well?

Maybe no "get rid of 90% of commands", but earlier someone suggested simplifying the menu.

It's really easy for me to call for "help" (qqq) or whistle for a horse (qqf), but probably the other most important voice commands "incoming cavalry from [insert direction]" requires 4 different key presses. Meanwhile the incoming cav has killed me because I'm muddling through all the menus.
