Title: Nodachi
Post by: Ujio on July 05, 2012, 03:29:22 pm
I've always wondered why the Nodachi doesn't have a thrust. The point of the sword looks more than capable of thrusting, so why is this?

It had the same stab as the Flamberge/Polearms when strat 1 was up, no idea why it got removed

The damage of that stab was rly low, no reason to use it anyway^^

I'm sure there's a better way to balance the weapon, than just to remove it's thrust entirely.

In fact if we look at the Claymore and the Nodachi, the Claymore has 43 cut and 22 pierce, whereas as the Nodachi has 43 cut and no thrust. How is that balanced?

Highland Claymore                        Nodachi
Weapon length: 117                      Weapon length: 122
Weight: 3                                     Weight: 3.5
Difficulty: 16                                 Difficulty: 16
Speed rating: 92                           Speed rating: 91
Thrust damage: 22 pierce              Thrust damage: 0
Swing damage: 43 cut                   Swing damage: 43
Slots: 2                                        Slots: 2

Secondary mode

Because we need to cull 'weeaboos' through 'balancing' measures.

The nodachi is longer and heavier, I fail to see the problem.

:D Yeah exactly. This mod is all about Variety and diversity why should any one culture be punished.

In saying that, I totally understand when people get pissed off about Weeabo Ninja, but a whole Culture shouldn't get it in the eye because of them. There are plenty of people out there, who like to play as realistic Japanese warriors.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, the Nodachi is a longer and heavier weapon, not to mention the fact it has a curved blade, I feel it should do slightly more Cut damage than the Claymore. But at the end of the day I'd rather it was given a Thrust. That's a major disadvantage not to have that.

I was thinking Nodachi with 43 cut and 19 pierce, but then it would still be inferior to the Claymore. Perhaps 44 Cut 18/19 pierce would make it more balanced.

Hmm, it's still a heavy weapon (3.5 kg.), and not really too much slower than the claymore.  44 cut would probably put it on the level of being an almost-flamberge.  Looking at how the items seem to have a correlation between weight and stab (claymore at 22 with 3 kg, great sword at 26 with 2.5 kg, looking at the same rough tier), it doesn't seem too ridiculous that the nodachi could have an 18 pierce 2h stab.  I mean, it's already got -1 length compared to the German Greatsword.  I'd support an increase of +1 cut, but only with a bit of a price buff too.

Yeah maybe if anything the Nodachi could be 1 speed point slower as well.

To be honest I'd happily trade in some speed (and this applies to the Katana as well) for decent Cut and Thrust damage.
Would also mean (In regards to the Katana) that it wouldn't be referred to as a cheap spamming weapon, and could actually be taken seriously.

That's a good point you make in regards to the price. If it were to only receive a Thrust, I'd say the price should be the same, but if it were to receive more Cut damage then the price should be increased

Won't ever happen. Why you ask?

Because if the nodachi had a stab, it would be a capable rival to the two "godly" great swords (German and Danish), and we can't have that. We must have more cookie-cutter, copy&paste Kuyak/Greatsworders on the battle field and less Samurai.

That's why.

Cookie-cutter?

P.s 16 stab katana is a joke and a fucking liability.

Totally agree with you there
