Used a self-loomed Double Sided Lance for 2 generations, currently looming up another one (old one sold).  It's great!

Most of the underused items you listed are underused because they're either peasant weapons or otherwise bad. It's only logical that people go for the better alternative.

No such thing as bad weapons. Only bad players.

Perhaps it was a poor choice of words. I meant  that there are better weapons stats-wise.

A good player can make a good score with any weapon. It's just that people are min-maxers and tend to go with the best weapons that they like.

Item price and upkeep are large factors as well

Shortened Military Scythe is ridiculously good for its low price. Hardly noticed a speed difference compared to a German Greatsword.

Well it is very different across the ocean.
1H

Shashka - Most of the 1handed cavs use either that or ACS .
All of the short Swords - In rageball people use them (Scottish sword most likely)
Fighting Pick - It is an amazing peasant weapon i used it when i were a lowbie i don't understand why people ignore that aswell. With low PS and Str thats the only 1h weapon that won't glance.
Grosse and Langes Messer - I rarely see grosse messer but Langes Messer is commonly used as pikeman, longbowman or crossbowman side weapon.

2H

Maul I only see DenBitre Old Shatterhand with that
Shortened Voulge -No one uses it.
Shortened Military Scythe - Pretty overused both in strat and in cRPG.
Goedenag - I just learnt that it can be used as 1hander aswell.I rarely see that ugly stick...
Long Iron Mace - Needs crushthrough imo , stats are useless compared to other 2handers.
Sword of War - Very common 2hander in Eurozone. I remember paying on top of danish to get one to myself .(Than i traded it to Great Sword which is way more awesome imo.)

Polearm

Voulge - rarely seen in siege .
Long Voulge - Don't mention it or you'll make Bars cry :( .
All of the Staffs - Classic lancer sideweapon on EU side . Elite cav shield + heavy lance + quarter staff = typical clone soldier in eu.
Military Scythe - classic early strat polearm ^^
Military Fork- underused
Battle Fork- underused
Long Spiked Club- underused
Both Long Hafted Maces - underused
Double Sided Lance - I see it all the time.

Imo the most underused or maybe never used item is heavy crossbow... why would u use it while you have an arbalest oO
Btw Palfrey is a lonely horse seeking riders ...

I don't think it'd be a sin if they had some items with the exact same stats.  Then it would be an aesthetic choice and we'd see that interesting variety on the battlefield.  I mean they went to all the trouble of adding them to the game, might as well get someone to use them.

I'm heirlooming a Plain Cavalry Shield for the speed, thing allows me to block faster than manual blocking

How about elite cav shield? Its still fast and got 100 hp more
Title: Re: Underused Weapons
Post by: Yachdiel on June 27, 2012, 11:11:30 am
I went for all out speed, buckler was fast and light but not enough coverage, and Plain actually has 1 more point of coverage. Plain is fast, weighs only 4, and has enough coverage to do the job at the cost of breakability, which at MP and 6 shield won't matter much. I've noticed my ability to feint and chamber is ridiculous, especially with a fast weapon.

double sided lance really needs some love. Cut on the swing would  be the solution.

Also shortened voulge is very good I really don't understand why it isn't used. The fact that it is really long for an axe and its animation screws up 100% of the time make it deadly in native so cRPG shouldnt be too different.

And Falchion What is going on there. Great wep for damage but the speed rating is frightful It really is only good one on one where speed rating is less relevant.

Short Swords are amazing for Strategus battles (especially siege there), cheap and useful in siege mode. But not when playing battle therefore I currently have a Nordic War Sword, but if there was any offers of short Swords I would accept them. Sometimes 95 Range is just too much.

Don't see many Arabian Guard Swords.
Or any arabian swords at that, they are a bit rare.
Arming swords too.
Two Handed Sword.
Heavy Great Sword.
Only long awlpike I've seen is owned by Adoptagoat.

I swear i 1 hit more people with MW Shortened Military Scythe than with MW Flamberge.

It's probably me not hitting with the sweetspot of flam or somethin tho eh?

I find it a lot easier to kill and fight multiple opponents with SMS in siege than with flam.

Its hilarious when I see people switch to polearm mode with their 2h bcos they think that's what Im doing with SMS - Im not, it just has a polearm stab.

I think I made the very first +3 Battle Fork. I've got a +3 Shortened Spear and Military Fork now too. I've also owned +3 Long Dagger, Quarter Staff and Maul. :P

Italian Falcion-Although really short, it does a lot of damage. Masterworked it does 37c at 102 speed
Scottish Sword- Again really short, damage isn't great but its really fast and the model is small enough that a lot of players have a hard time seeing it.

edit: It is hard to find interesting two handers that aren't used and are balanced. Before the patch, I would put havign a poke into this category as well, but that isn't nearly as important now, so weapons such as the dadao have opened up. I do have a +3 goedendag and a +3 bar mace though. (And a SoW, but I see people using this all the time, so I don't think it really qualifies as underused.)

No such thing as bad weapons. Only bad players.

Back when Dan_ATS was a 2her, I remember him killed 5 or 6 people in one round in melee at level one in rags and a practice longsword.

Before the turning nerf, military fork was OP.

Long Bardiche is best Bardiche. Only seen 2 people use it.

Regular Short Sword is the most cost efficient sword I've seen. (2000 gold for 26p stab, compared to 6000+ for 27p stab on scottish)

Nordic War Sword is also an amazing weapon that only began to see the light recently. (I destroyed people a few gens trying to loom one and had many "zomg what sword es dat?"so may be it...maybe)

Military Hammer is SLOWLY coming up to awesomeness in NA. OP weapon.

I used a +3 Long Bardiche for 3 gens (after 3 gens of Great Long Bardiche). Totally sick weapon, I don't know why it is rare. Now that I am 1h/shield, I hope it stays rare, because that thing will 2-3 shot most shields.

Nordic War Sword is a viable alternative to Italian Sword, I think it just gives up a little too much reach and thrust damage for that 1 more cut damage. Looks way cooler than the Italian though.

I love my +3 military hammer, and they are starting to get popular. People assume 94 speed on a 1h is slow, but 94 speed is considered fast for a 2h/pole, so it doesn't feel slow. 1h swords just don't do significant damage to even people in loomed medium armor, 31 blunt held attack to the head will mess anyone up though.

In general though, I'd say the short swords are the most underused as a whole. They should all do more damage, especially on thrust.

 Langes Messer

Quite a common used weapon.

Arabian Straight Sword. The sexiest arabian sword imo, if the scabbard had the same colour as the hilt I would loom it, even though it has the worst stats out of all swords.

Long Bardiche is best Bardiche. Only seen 2 people use it.

Most people don't realize, but the Long Bardiche cannot rear horses. It's 140 length, which is 1 length short of being able to rear horses. The Poleaxe, which is 141 length, can rear horses. Still a good weapon, but arguably worse than the Great Long Bardiche, which I prefer for the extra 1 damage and the excellent length-155, beaten out only by the Glaive's 160, excluding lower damage side-swing polearms (Fauchard, Scythe).
