So, why are there so many people out there swinging Danish or German Greatswords, but only so few using the Sword of War?
It's been my favourite since I've started playing; what with the high swing damage and speed, not to mention its pleasant appearance. Sure, you lose out on a bit of length and thrusting damage; but both are minimal. So, in my eyes, the SoW and the two National Greatswords are pretty much on equal footing.
Alas, most others do not seem to think so. Why is that?
PS: This does not mean that more people ought to use it. I'm happy being a little special

It's fat.
-
I'm surprised I don't see a lot of Sword of Wars, too. It weighs more than the Danish or German, and that means less glances and more weapon stuns. The STR crutch 2h mob should be all over that sort of thing.

You're too skinny to use it, you mean?

Weapon weight has nothing to do with glances.

This sword is ugly, and I think some people dont like the scabbard as well.
-
It's too heavy for me (agi build).
-
Highland Claymore <3
First sword i bought, first mw-item and i still fucking love it after 1 (and a couple of months?! not quite sure) year of cRPG =D
-
Tbh the SoW stats are among the best, but it's glow, color and model are very easy to follow compared to a GGS for example.
-
I like my strength crutch sow. The sheathe is cool too :P
-
I used to use it back when i was 2h for the speed, but ya it is an ugly weapon.
-
Guess who uses a +3 Sword of War......Thisssssssss Guyyyyyyyyyy 8-)
-
I think it's a very underrated and underused weapon. I enjoyed playing with it for a gen. I was able to equip better armour because of its lower upkeep compared to the other greatswords.
-
I use the sword of war because it looks cool, but comparing stats, the danish is better, and most people want the best so they will take the danish over Sword of war
-
Its ugly
-
Great weapon.
Light brown sheat etc. makes it look special....and ugly with most armors.
Id suggest to darken the brown :-)
Sidenote:
Best looking and statwise best is GreatSword. Sorry ;-)
-
Fat blade, easy to see.
Though it's the best looking two-handed weapon out there, the scabbard is cute.
-
You people all have bloody issues. The SoW is damned pretty! Parallel blade geometry, spatulate point, hexagonal cross-section, long waisted grip, scent-stopper pommel, and dat crossguard! Never mind the colour of the grip and scabbard, those are a lot better than the boring gray of the Greatswords.
Also, it doesn't bother with a fancy S-shaped crossguard or whatever the hell is up with the Danish's blade. Not to even think of the Danish Greatsword's ugly-as-arse grip and pommel...by jove, what have they done?

Great Sword wins.

that
and stab is really weak
but still I like to have one
-
Well on an aesthetic level, I wish its scabbard didn't clip through half the armors in the game (at least most of the ones I use :()
Statwise it is superior to a lot of the greatswords but it is pretty middle of the road in everything. Above average in length and speed and average in damage compared to other greatswords. Some people don't want a middle of the road weapon though and look to maximize a certain stat. (Nodachi or Claymore for damage, Germans for stabs, Danish for length)
It all comes down to personally preference though. The stat differences are so small, people just use what they think looks cool.
-
As someone who has used a SoW since day one (of me playing that is), all I can say is that its served me well.
I do however have to agree with people who say its easy to see. If I have a duel with a person whos using another SoW it can get boring quite quickly if we're both on the ball with blocking as it can just take ages. In battle it might not make so much of a difference but I think it does in a 1v1 situation. And these days when alot of people can block at least competantly it isnt the best sword to use.
Whether its good looking or not is entirely opinion based. I liked it.
-
People dont see it coming when you hit them in the back. :P
-
If flamberge was ever removed and I didnt quit i would use SoW + Morningstar 24/7.
It's an awesome sword.
-
I approve. It is an awesome sword and I enjoyed playing with it, had it masterworked and with 8 PS it did a lot of damage.
Neither sure why the Heavy Great Sword isnt used that often. Such a fancy sword.
-
Hmm, maybe I should try out the Sword of war. I've been buying a lot of weapons lately, today I bought the Goedendag and it's amazing.
-
I never considered the SoW
I was always between the longsword or the two handed sword.
but im 18/21

I think it's because it looks very similar to the SoW but is all around worse stat wise.

Well if the sword of war is underused, why would you think the greatsword would be any different? Its just a worse Sword of war.
-
Sword of War was the weapon of choice for my first char in cRPG, it had 130 length back then :)
-
Seriously?
The danish greatsword and SoW are practically the same. 1 point of speed is not noticeable at all
-
Sword of War feels and looks slow as shit. Ofcourse this is probably one of those optical illusions, but if it looks slow you can block it easier.
Still it looks fucking badass.
-
It was the first Item I ever fully loomed and I used to love it, but in the end the ugliness of the scabbard just got to me. wearing things like my old Drz Mail Shirt it just used to look stupid, you have this big ugly orangy-brown thing stuck on your back, i mean how the fuck is it attached? If they removed the scabbard I'd 100% get it again!
-
The higher weight increases the chance of stun, too! And yeah, it's a shame the Heavy Greatsword is so thoroughly underpowered, it looks quite nice as well :(
Anyways, I'm a 15/25 build, and the SoW works quite well for that. Needs good footwork to get enough damage out of it, but the length gives me the advantage against most other weapons and the speed of it is fairly forgiving for poor fencers like me. <3
