Title: Ladders
Post by: Fluffy_Muffin on March 30, 2011, 01:32:23 pm
Hello, let me know what you think about this suggestion:

A modification to the current battle maps, adding indestructable ladders to more houses and removing the usage of deployable ladders in battle mode. I think this would make everyone happy. Archers would still be able to go on roofs as most of the houses would have ladders, and mele would always be able to get to them because the ladders would be indestructable.

No more unreachable roofs
No more ladderpulting tks
No more skyladder leechers

It's a good idea, but the main concept of ladders was the freedom to put them where you want (not available in others mods).
I guess it's how chadz see it, even if he doesn't think of all possible glitch.

No.

I like ladders. Yes, there are some issues. But nothing that can't be fixed.

Ladderpulting hardly ever happens after the ladder change. Just tell people to watch it when they deploy a ladder.

If you know people will be camping a roof, bring a ladder yourself and talk to your team to make a plan and assault that roof. Great fun and those roofcampers are often easy kills. It's easiest to carry a ladder while mounted, because then it won't slow you down so much. But even on foot, bringing one ladder doesn't slow you down that much and you'll need to stick with your assault squad anyway, so moving slowly might be a good idea.

Skyladder leechers? Never heard of that. I've seen a few skyladders though. Those can probably be fixed by changing the ladder code a bit.

The thing is, if you remove ladders from battle altogether, the maps become static. That would be a shame. I like how every round is different depending on where the roofcampers deploy their ladders.

This. And just like in the last thread, best way to stop rooftop campers causing draws: Make the motf always spawn at 2 minutes left. Making sure every map has at least 3 flag spawn points is also alot less work than modifying all maps to have accesible rooftops.

ladders must stay..

btw anyone find Shogun 2 total war lacking with no ladders or roof archer units ? i mean castles would so much easier to defend if player could put archers on those roofs, why dont they implement such feature is beyond me

also those so called "battles" in open field.. why there is no buildings to increase the dynamics :(

sry for offtopic

Well you could still get this tactical ladder use on siege servers, where it would be easier to counter roof archers because you can get the ladders in your equipment screen when you respawn, on battle however you loose a round cause the unreachable archers make swiss cheese out of you

Sure get some ladders next round, but they can destroy them easily hence this suggestion about indestructable ladders on houses.

Oh and another issue, those pesky desert map ladders wich have a realy steap angle. It takes ages to get up them, and when you reach the last point you need to jump to get over them. (and falling to death isnt fun either) Is putting a smoother angle ladders so hard ? :/

I like the ladders how they are now, the only thing I hate is the flying ladders, if the dev team can fix this, it would be awesome, especially on siege mode...

It would pretty cool if you put in a stash for seperate teams in battle mode like native singleplayer where you could store unnecessary items for the time being. Would help to fix the ladder problem.  I thinnk think the main reason why people don't carry ladders is because you HAVE to have them out if you're carrying them and they weig you down alot.

But, that would have to do with spawn points and the scene editor unless I'm mistaken.

OR: make the stash via costruction site. But those only remain for one round so... Bleh

sry for Going so off topic.

ladders are fine atm. except those damn skyladders.
if those where removed it would just be perfekt.

i love it that you can deploy ladders anywhere you like, so you can attack from unexpected ways.

If they take multiple slots in the patch, like it has been said, that will fix this problem.

So no need for my suggestion anymore

Rooftop campers rarely cause draws these days. What does cause draws is a group of campers on an urban map waiting by a doorway with lolhammers and heavy crossbows. I don't see ladders as too much of a problem.
