Title: Remove negative effects from rain.
Post by: Dravic on March 30, 2011, 10:01:46 am
I dont care about particle effects, but negative effects to running, xbows (75% of effectiveness) and bows (90% of effectiveness) are just lmao.

It shouldnt be that way: if i play xbowman, i cant play, if there is rain effectively. If i play agi char, i cant play, if there is rain effectively.

I'm not sure it's that to be honest. I didn't know until recently how much rain effected me as an archer and because I have particle effects off I never knew when it was on, I just assumed my computer was being slow...

I say leave it since it gives me a bit more of a challenge (as long as I get told it's raining by a clanmate) so I quite like it.

Yeah. Archers with 90% are ok. But what about xbows 75% effectiveness only?

And running speed. It hurts agi at most, because str builds are slow anyway.

There's too many xbows around already.

normally rain is nerfing xboews in real. the himid rain has effect on composite horn bows of xbows and bows made of composit material (hunting xbow, light xbow, crossbow, nomad bow, strong bow and khergit bow) they lose range and penetration energy and with that projectile speed decrease and accuracy decrease. rain has also effect on moving speed there due to the mud u cant move that fast. in history these factors turned battles in the 100 years war for example the battle of agincourt (where french crossbow men were uneffective due to rain factor) and the battle of crecy where french heavy armored knights were dieing in mud and were shot by longbowmen due to their slow movement speed.

make it that rain only effects movement speed, hunting xbow, light xbow, crossbow, khergit bow, nomad bow and strongbow

This is what whole thread is about.

But there would be even more xbowmen if the rain effects weren't that strong

Cool, I didn't know that.

Can we have MORE rain? it is good for agriculture and makes Samurai characters feel like home.

This, and I play an athletic archer as my main.

I love the fog, and I enjoy how rain changes things.

But... Why? Everyone suffers from these penalties while it rains so I don't see what the problem is. I like the rain, means I can safely get from point A to point B without worrying of uber accurate xbowmen 2 shotting me. & btw everyone carrying a crossbow makes the rain a life saver since it seems C-rpg is entering another golden age of range and lame. Keep the rain, if it wasn't hard coded I would say make it's negative effects even more noticeable.

I though people wanted ranged nerfed a bit, or even a melee-only day.  Rain seems like a perfect fit for these folks.

That is what I thought, but to be fair the athletic folks hate it.

I like the weather and night time effects though as it spices things up, though I do wish that night time was a bit darker.

Please no, even with my monitor brightness up as high as possible and Monitor Gamma up in game as high as it can go, night for me is very dark.  I have trouble making out the weapons swings at night.  So please do not make the night any darker.

Oh sorry hehehe. I guess I am just insane. Well, not much guess work for that actually.

OK then, how about making torches brighter so night time and fog is more dynamic, and have them dim in the rain?

Why are people against removing rain effects/disabling it? It severely hurts single playstyle, and that is xbowmen. If you wanna nerf xbows do it in normal manner by playing with stats or introducing some new mechanic, I don't care, but this is just stupid. I understand the mentality that "if it doesnt hurt my playstyle, I'm ok that with it hurting other", but I thought maybe developers should go above that. It's not fun if your preffered playstyle, whatever it is, is so much dependant on wether it rains or not.

Also, go to hell with "reality" arguement. That has no place here, and you know it.

EDIT: As for agi stackers, it hurts them as well, but ultimately, everyone is slower. Only those high ath build can actually see significant decrease.
EDIT 2: Typo in first sentence making it stupid...

I like having the variety, although I wish specific weather would only effect one type of play style.

Like rain effects crossbow damage, nighttime reduces throwing and archery accuracy slightly, etc.  Cav already get good & bad maps naturally, so I guess melee get out scot free, which I'm ok with.

This is why I've been saying it just needs to rain less. The weather %s are able to be changed.

To be hones i did not notice any reduction in speed whilst it rains unless i read it on the forums. Might be due to the fact i like to run around quite a lot on some maps, and i was blaming the uphill-ish terrain.

Still, perfectly understandable why you move slower, you are getting soaked with rain water and heavier, your amor is either getting heavy or rusty, so...i know it might be annoying for dedicated crossbowman, but there are things that annoy other playstyles just as much, be it terrain, type of map, composition of the opposing team, whatever :D

Yeah? But again. This game is not realistic, dont try to use "realism" argument.

Oh, so make it so rain affect cavalry, too. - to their horses' max speed same as to athletics speed. So we still can run away from them. Then, it will be fair. For now, on some maps, if it rains, there is no point in playing xbowman or agi-athletic char. You are just going to be raped by uberfast cavalry (when it rains, cav is superior to my agi-athletics char)

Every class is dependant on "terrain, type of map, composition of the opposing team, whatever". Only crossbowmen is also screwed when it's raining.

I really do not care for malus to running, rain or crap terrain, but it warms my heart a little to think a crossbowman is suffering.

I don't use a crossbow, it just rapes the shit out of athletics builds with high rain percentages.
Besides, a guy with half a pound of clothes on is not going to get slowed down at all in the rain in real life -- yet such builds are slown down WAY more than heavier builds both relatively and absolutely.

*puts on deal with it glasses*

Keep weather effects, but let's have less rain and fog. Or keep the rain and fog but replace the santa hats with top hats so we can all go round looking like Jack The Ripper in keeping with the weather.
