Title: The Last Stand Siege
Post by: Wallace on March 30, 2011, 04:17:24 am
You are surrounded by all sides... what do you do?

HACK AND SLASH

(click to show/hide)

Views are 4 sides and an overhead
Attacker spawns encircle 360 degrees
Options for door bashing or winch
Winch rooms are dead ends with archer platforms directly above making it the more difficult option

Looks cool. An actual map with 360 degree attacking spawns, which is very original.

I just see ladders being a huge problem on this map.

basically only places a ladder is practical you can already walk up to with staircases

Looks like it could use more polishing before hitting the server

I'm referring to multiple ladders stacking.
Put a ton of one-way flying invisible walls in places to prevent ladder stairs and this map can be made stupid-ladder proof.

So is it possible? Can you really make attacking spawns 360 all the way around the castle? If so I think, Wallace, you just opened up a whole new playground for us haha

Oh yeah it's easy to do that and I've already done it... now I just need to fine tune a few things on the map before I call it finished

I got a crap load of ideas in my head for maps, im sure you do too... But I think youre going to one of the people that open a whole new world for us map makers. And now that I got rid of my dungeon on my first castle you are going to be the only one with any part of a castle underground. Check out the interior prison stuff (not dungeon) i think they would work pretty good for non prison looking interiors. Especially the piece  that tall with one way in being stairs up to it. Its tall enough to put the flag in. I experimented with it for my map but opted not to use because my map is actually about having a city and trying to get the D out of the castle though right now they seem to huddle around the flag...

BTW im totally using the 360 degree spawn for attackers for an island siege im working out. It should be epic... Thank u for the new idea

Just a word of advice: balancing a map with 360° spawns is much more difficult than with one or two fronts of attack. But I guess you'll notice that soon anyway :).

Well the problem of ladder spamming on the sides of walls sparked the idea of building down rather than up

The way I'm doing my interior layout will in turn lead to a farther run to the flag
Ideally this will force attackers to the winches and pinch points
