Title: Buff polearms swingable from horseback
Post by: [ptx] on June 14, 2012, 04:20:58 pm
Hafted blade cav is a horribly neglected class, currently. Whilst definitely fun, its animations deliver low damage and have a tendency to glance a ton, even though seemingly hitting mid-swing.
Not a lot of people do this, actually an STF alt of mine was the only such char i've seen in EU servers doing this, except for a few players infrequently doing this a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago. How about making this class somewhat more viable somehow?
Animation being active longer, to deliver hits more reliably? Better damage? Something else?

Also, need more polearms to be swingable from horseback!

Bec should be swingable from horseback, but maybe it would be too strong then?  like a polo player

I think the problem is, all polearm damage and swing speed is reduced to 70% as if they were used with one hand; even if their attacking animations suggest otherwise. This is same in native as well and was bothering me a bit.

Edit: Perhaps more poles swingable on horseback would be nice as well. How about long hafted maces?

This, I like. More poles need to be swingable. The stab on polearm maces from horseback is just retarded. Concerning swing speed, the mace would be slow but wouldn't glance as much due to blunt.

WOOT BUFF LHB, there arent enough weaboos yet!

No seriosuly, I hate weaboos, but they are here, so might aswell make them representative of RL: The Long Hafted Blade really has been needing a rename for ages seeing as it is 100% a japanese polearm, the Naginata. It was used along with others like it from horseback extensively, and if you dont believe me we will look to a reliable historic source :D

Pretty corny trailer for an AMAZING film. In the movie we see: Katana spam, Horsemy old friendchers doing their thing, Toshiro Mifune proving that the Nodachi is viable, a few my old friends with early firearms getting really sneaky lowskill kills (Arbalest, arquebus, its all the same), and at at least one point if my memory doesnt fail me (Last watched this 20 years ago) a couple of billy-bad-asses using LHB from horseback. Also features peasants spamming Bamboo Spear to counter cavalry: This is why I always claim it is best of spears, cheap, effective, historically THE go-to weapon for all peasants wishing to topple their social superiors off a horse.

I believe the swings need to be faster, and not only fixed horizontal swings.

Swings should be allowed to be controlled by players on both vertical and horizontal axis with mouse.

Right now, the swings are only aimed toward foot infantry (down) and if another cavalry unit would come to attack you, you'd be doomed, because you'd only be scraping their horse or foot.

Since the swing animation for polearms on horseback is extremely goofy, doesn't make any sense, and is very difficult to read, I'm gonna have to vote no on this one.

Also, the LHB has way more range than other swingable weapons like the longsword, morning star, etc. It's actually pretty broken in an overpowered sort of way.

Personally, it's a bummer for me when I see some asshole waving his hands around at random, not even touching the pole, with a LHB helicoptering around him. What we REALLY need is a decent animation for these weapons, not a buff.

I agree, I was level 18 in a leather jerkin and straw hat and got hit by some samurai using it on a horse, it took about 1/5 of my health, with 3 ironflesh or so. Pretty pathetic...

well, I think you are in the same boat. Perhaps "buff" sounds a bit wrong, because I guess this whole thread is rather more about getting polearms from horseback more enjoyable for everyone involved. So new animations would be great, yes.
