Title: Courser Or Destrier
Post by: Weewum on June 14, 2012, 02:58:38 am
Title. I'm mainly a lancer/1h hybrid leaning toward 1h.

if you can afford the 1.6k upkeep for the Destrier, it's definitely the better horse. I am actually selling a +1 Destrier, would you be interested? :)

Would you suggest Arabian or Destrier for my lancer alt (7 riding)?

With 7 riding you might aswell use the Arabian, but do take note it will take a lot less hits than the Destrier. it also depends on your play style. Does your alt have the 15/21 build?

Destrier obviously.

Courser is a joke.

18/21

Nice, well tbh it's entirely up to you. I'd personally use the Arabain otherwise your wasting that 7 riding (plus the acceleration and maneuverbility is awesome), but if you get pissed off from being dehorsed easily, you can use the Destrier as back up :)

As far as horse stats go, I think arabian is the best, then courser, then destrier.  It's just up to you if you want to use a build that requires 21 or 18 agility for arabian or courser.  Manuever then speed is the best factor for horses.

Destrier is best overall for 1h cav.  Does everything well & sturdy enough to take a good amount of battle damage.  Do not underestimate your usefulness just knocking down tin cans for your team to hit while they're on ground.

If you are going to do any 1h from cav, dont bother bringing a lance.  Just kill a lancer and take his, save money!

Good luck with that destrier and also don't forget the best thing to be on cav is patient and opportunistic and stay near a group of inf to support them oh and picking off archer is best.

And trying to 1v1 another cavalry lancer is a good way to diminish the amount of kills you can get that round.  Even assuming you are very confident your timing and maneuver is better than the other guy, that cavalry lancer is a much greater threat to you, than an infantry guy who is engaged and actively fighting (hint, they're distracted).

Any melee cavalry is best used going after enemy infantry (using risk assessment to go after the least likely threat to you and your horse), also try to take out the largest threat to you or your team if you have the opportunity (go after a pikemen, or a heavily armored infantry who is tearing up your infantry).  If your team is dying then I up my risk factor and take more risks.  Also, if the enemy cavalry is destroying our team then I will usually up the risk factor I'm willing to take, and will go head-on versus enemy cavalry.  But typically it seems like my team does better when I'm attacking and killing enemy infantry, than trying to play defense (or try to be a buffer) against enemy cavalry versus our infantry.

One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing our cavalry race off at the beginning of the round and try to engage the enemy cavalry.  It's one of the worst uses of your cavalry as you can make.  Second biggest pet peeve is seeing your cavalry circle around a group of enemy cavalry or infantry, and basically allow themselves to be kited for a majority of the round.

Just another question, what is better to take with 1h? Morningstar, Knightly Arming Sword, or Arabian Cavalry Sword.

Don't listen to huesby he's just saying that because he hates that I engage other cavalry more often than infantry and win hahaha pro horse killa right hurr

For 1h I'd go Arabian cavalry as the knightly has less cut and less range and you will be doing a lot more slashing than stabbing so knightly won't be as effective unless you just prefer the aesthetics of it. He Morningstar is a good choice a lil bit short but good damage the only thing I'd say about that is are u willing to use it as a 1h while on foot if you get dehorsed?

Currently I have played 2 round with Morningstar and Knightly Heater, with Arabian Cav Sword for lighter targets and Destrier, I have an 18/18 build 6 Riding, IF, and PS, and 4 WM, and it is highly satisfactory.

For the future, riding skill doesn't give you enough of a gain to use more than you need for your horse.  If you only need 5 riding, next gen I'd go 21/15 instead of 18/18.  Also, IMO, i'd loom the horse before anything else (if you're a horseman).
