Title: Crusader Kings II: Game of thrones mod
Post by: Oberyn on June 13, 2012, 02:33:51 pm
So there was a topic about CKII and how it was 75% off on steam. I hadn't played the game for a while so I decided to go online and see what interesting mods there were. I have not yet installed this, but it looks pretty interesting. http://citadel.prophpbb.com/topic657.html

It takes place during the uprising against the crazy Targaryen king and his kidnap-happy son. It seems more interesting than regular CKII if only because someone who has read the books/watched the show probably has more attachment to the characters than to some random historically accurate noble (unless you're really into history and know old dynasty's entire lineages/personalities/stories by heart or something). Stuff like keeping Jon Snow from ever being born (or winning the war as the Targaryens and having him be the heir of Rhaegar), educating Tyrion into being a commander and heir, killing off Catelyn and marrying Cersei to Eddard (poor fucker), and seeing how it plays out. Probably not a lot of replayability and can have weird stuff happening like Greyjoys taking the Iron Throne or Starks betraying Baratheons. And being a 0.1 v it's probably quite buggy. I'll post some impressions when/if I ever get around to trying it out, if someone else out there wants to give it a try and give their own impressions that would be awesome.

Very good, if you're into these type of games that is, I'd say it's easily one of the best of this genre.

I actually helped quite a lot to win the war of the usurper for the good guy side, i wasnt very powerfull at the time but i sent all my own men to the war

i kept pressing claim on half of the north till i could claim independence and win, (During a seccond revolt. where eddard was actually revolting against robert baratheon). Won that stuff, then kept claiming more territory till i could call myself lord paramount

CK2 is probably the one of the best games Paradox have ever made, or close to it.

So, would you recommend me starting out with this mod rather than playing native CK2? I just bought it this weekend and haven't installed it yet.
In general, I tend to enjoy mods a lot more than native, such as Stainless steel for MTW2..

I'd reccomend doing a native game first. best bet is to play as an independant earl in ireland to learn the game. its the easiest, the only competition on ireland are other 1-2 county earls, and its nice and slow so you can learn the game

It's fairly easy to become the Duke of Munster within 10 years and getting the rest of Ireland in another 15.

i still have the save but its from like 4 patches ago, gave me the warning that if i loaded it then the universe would collapse.
Its quite easy really, just went for the isles, then the isle of man, eat northern ireland and you can easy rape scotland. then its only a matter of waiting for rebelion in england to take claims on that land

You should eventually try the Norman Duchy of Apulia, Bjord. Best CKII experience you'll ever get.

I always wanted to step it up from total war, but man, Paradox style of strategy is kinda confusing to play.
It feels like things are falling out of my hands, I can't see what's going on, what is the ideal move, etc etc.

Can you point me somewhere where you learned how to play it well? Or some advice, perhaps?

It'll come to you. You'll learn, don't worry.

Best way of learning a game you find impossibly hard or confusing is to try and fail repeatedly. Nothing like mistakes to teach you.

we played some multiplayer games at HRE, I assasinated Rogues only heir once - game over XD - , but he got his revenge in another game as he became my liege and threw me into prison.

tried that Got aswell but I prefer CK2Plus (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?587854-CK2Plus-Balance-improvements-more-kingdoms-and-empires-more-ambitions-and-plots) more challenging and stuff to do, also all religions playable

I saw the GoT mod on the steam news - dl'd it but havent installed/played it.

I keep restarting as an irish earl.

Becoming King of Ireland is pretty straight forward.

I must of been really lucky on my first game because I made a holy war on spain and i fucked that whole country up until my ruler died and all my vassals rebelled and screwed me over - not to mention i made a mistake hiring a second mercenary band and I ran out of money and then they decided to fuck me over too lol - game over methinks.

The current game im playing ive been at war with muslim spain for ages - hired mercenaries and holy orders, vassal negative opinion from using their troops is up to -40 for some and i had to go for white peace in the end.

Got to not prolong wars. and dont forget that no matter what, succession will always be hard. rule well in your prime, be carefull when you are of bad health. even having a nasty cough is enough to stop you going to war till its cured. be carefull

Yeah i thought my dynasty was going to be strong this time round too - had a queen who's ruled since she reached the age of 16 and she's 68 now. All her sons are dead from my recent wars though and the next heir was female and married to the king of navarre in a normal marriage so I had to change the line of succession.

I hope this works out ok - i havent done elective b4.

Post by: NuberT on June 19, 2012, 09:23:56 am
Succession is often way easier when you switch to elective law, that way you can always choose the dynasty member with the best stats etc. obviously you want all your electors to be of your blood :)

but note that independent or foreign rulers with de jure titles of your kingdom have a vote aswell!

I decided to start a long road to glory by picking Petyr Baelish as my character. I married Catelyn, which I thought was quite cool and roleplayish, turns out Eddard died a bit quicker than before. She still got a kid from him when Petyr married her.

My gameplay is by far the most volatile I ever played.

First started as a Hungarian count(of Pest), then 20 years into the game my liege grants me Duchy of Pest which includes two more fiefs other than my own and life is looking great. Then civil war breaks out and I had to choose a side. Greedy as I was, I sided with the rebels, whom lost 5 years later. Luckily, no consequences involved me. Later on, I marry the daughter of a duke who has a claim on the Croatian crown, and it turns out my bet was pretty accurate as he declared war on his liege. He called me to arms and the Croatian my old friend King got pwned. Newly reinstated king of Croatia dies and had no male heir, so my wife becomes Queen of Croatia and since it was no matrimonial marriage, male heirs are prioritized.

Then for some reason, she loses the crown of Croatia and instead becomes Queen of Poland, which I don't mind since it was a much bigger faction. My only annoyance was that she refused to die and lived to be 76 years old while as her husband, my current character died at 63. My heir Konrád II wouldn't inherit the crown until he was 50, talk about a fucking hag who refuses to die.

Anyway, right now I'm at A.D 1268 fighting Croatia once again for its crown, also newly acquired the crown of Lithuania so that makes me the King of Poland and Lithuania. I could usurp crown of Finland since I have enough regions, but I could care less about those horseloving pagans.

Yeah i woulda totally 'sassed that bitch.

Is it me or do the female characters seem to be the most evil?

I had one femal courtier who wanted to be spymaster but I never promoted her.

My spy masters began dying one by one.

Kept getting the message about suspicious deaths and im runnin out of potential candidates here.

Finally I realise/find out who has been killing them all - it's that same courtier - only now I can't even promote her and she's STILL killing whoever I promote to spymaster haha.

It got to a point where I considered putting people i didnt like into that position just so she would kill them off for me.

EDIT: Found it in another thread in the site. And it's 0.2 now.
