Title: Question to Crossbowers with WPF investment.
Post by: Christo on March 28, 2011, 04:22:34 pm
What's your crosshair like, and what crossbow you use?

I'm interested in the accuracy of the crossbows with an invenstment, I prefer sniping, so I might make an alt if I have info about it.

It's definetitely worth it imo. Especially with the screwy balance between pures, hybrids and the amount of wpf gain.

One is with a helmet, one with an almost weightless black hood. Does that have the same x3 weight penalty as pre-patch?

I'm not sure, but the one with the helmet has 1 wpf, the weight penalty doesn't reduce you to less than 1 wpf.

Just look into Walt4F's test here: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,1357.msg31805.html#msg31805

He did an excellent job testing xbows...

yes, as soon as you hit like 120 wpf your xhair size gets closer pretty fast. I ended up with 159 wpf with sniper xbow, its pretty tight. and you still have points to spend for some melee wpf (89 wpf) which is pretty awesome :> I think anything above 160 xbow wpf is wasted since it only increases your reload speed slightly but not your xhair size. And some melee wpf are always cool, especially with xbow you have the space to ionvest points into PS and Athlectics

*hugs is masterwork sniper xbow*

Yaron, how do you deal with the sniper xbow's strange but seemingly random failure to release the bolts?

You know: you release the mouse button... nothing happens for half a second... you click and release again and *whoof* there goes the bolt.

Or is it just me having that? The light crossbow doesn't seem to have that.

There is the time, like 1-2 seconds maybe, when you start aiming, when you can't shoot. If you try to shoot during that, you will shoot, but with the delay you're mentioning. Works much like bows in this regard.
Other than that though, it's probably just you ^^ I've spent my time with crossbows and never noticed that problem, if it's happening it's so rare that I just forget it.

If u like to snipe u should make a pure crossbowman. I'm using masterwork sniper xbow with 163wpf and it's very nice :D
It's almost like a sniper rifle and delivered huge dmg. Agi bulids without good armour have almost no chance to survive a hit in chest and u can also aim headshots in middle distance with no problem (headshots are unsurviveable with sniper xbow :P)
Wpf also makes u reload a bit faster so in my opinion its a good option to make a pure crossbowman

I can think of two pure xbowman builds:

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

Strength: 15
Agility: 24
Hit points: 54
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 2
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 8
One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 173
Throwing: 1

8 athletics let you run away from opponent. Max accuracy with xbow, but your reload speed is slightly slower than:

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

Strength: 15
Agility: 27
Hit points: 50
Converted: 14
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 0
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 9
One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 181
Throwing: 1

Here you can split your athletics a bit to get some PS, or not, and stay as mobile as previous build, but you have to avoid fights. Second build is perfect sniper: you can RUN AWAY, SNIPE and you reload fast. You can leave your sniping position if you see enemy coming, and most likely he wont catch you :D
