Title: Help with Shields?
Post by: Glando on May 26, 2012, 04:29:40 pm
Hi, I am looking at buying a shield for my Cav/1 hander build. Are all shields 1 slot?

Which shield soaks up the most damage and is only 1 slot.

Any help, much appreciated.

IIRC any shield over weight 8 is 2 slots and the Round Steel Buckler is 0 slots.

As for what shield can take the most hits it depends on what weapon you're going up against.

Any shield on the list (that's usable on horseback) between Brown Lion Heater and Plate Covered Round.

They all have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to size, toughness, and speed to raise, but overall there's no terrible choices.

Board Shields rock versus everything, but are slow.
Metal Shields laugh at swords and blunt, but are slow and explode versus axes.
Round Shields have great coverage and are pretty balanced on foot.

Never tried kite shields to see their purpose, but I think it's speed? ./shrug.

kite shield is best for horsemen, as it protects your feet from getting hit.  Heaters & round cav's do the job as well.

Typically if you want to save money you can use a cheaper shield on horseback.  Chances are its going to do its job and block projectiles and it would shatter against a lance anyways.
