Title: Seeing the wrong block...
Post by: Crob28 on May 22, 2012, 01:36:00 pm
Lately I've noticed fairly often (well only a few times a day at most but enough to be annoying lol) that I will see my use an incorrect block but my attack is stopped anyways.

Most recent example was me fighting some guy and using a left swing and him holding a down block, making no attempt to change it as far as I can see and yet my attack is blocked.

What is to blame for this? My ping is good and fps ain't bad so is it hust something I'm going to have to learn to be ready for?

Sorry if it's an old question, only recently went 2h instead of shielder and its a new thing for me  :?

If it's only a few times a day, I don't think its any kind of bug. For me personally, occasionally the wrong block comes out and I react quick enough to fix it yet it is just in time so I really don't even see my own block animation switch before the *dink* sound. You are probably just seeing other people do that. Since manual blocks are instant as far I can tell, if they sneak in the block at the last moment you won't see the animation properly before the actual block occurs.

Yep, animations screw up at times, but don't fret it's the animation and not the block that is wrong.

I'm on a pretty mediocre connection and my blocks show the wrong direction all the time, but it still blocks the way I "order" it too.

I guess you're just seeing that happen to other players  :P

Just another thing to note, and you probably know this but anyway.. You can block an attack on your right side with a left held block if you move the block across to the correct area. Sometimes its easier if you're holding the wrong block to just turn and it will act as the opposite side block. Not sure if that works for up and down blocks too, don't think so tbh

The other instances are just animation bugs tho, they even happen on your own first person perspective..you think you hold one way but the server reports it another

I actually get the wrong block on mine, since I use arrow keys. If I press one direction, then hold block and hit another direction very quickly afterwards, sometimes my block will switch from the original direction to the new direction without me letting go of block. It's very frustrating, but that's one of the dangers of using arrow keys for blocking direction.

So all these people who say "Oh it's doing the right block", not necessarily, it could be fucking you over.

that happends always to me when i duel someone and then he tries to get behind me and do side attack,so when i press side block it usualy instead of blocking side,do down block.

Happens to me sometimes. More frequently though are swing animations for enemies not showing up. Sometimes I think someone just backstabed me just to find out my opponent simply had no swing animation.

I hate when i block down when i meant to block sides....its usually because i had started viewing my character from above a little bit too much and therefore the mouse read my actions as meaning to block down :(

but what you're talking about i have seen happen, when im attacking and to me when im defending.

sometimes i can do the block and it shows a different block, but then at the last second it JUMPS to the correct location...really weird.

The stupidest, most dumb bug is when you get a correct block direction, but the game screws up and you get hit, and on serverside people see it as a clear hit.

I die a lot because of that, and people call you a QQ-er for saying it, don't believe it either.

-.-

When i first come to America, my english did cause me problems. In Soviet Russia i was strong teacher, my english i know is the best in all of Petropavlovsk. My brother, Mikhail, he say to me, "Nikolai you go to America, they make you rich like czar, take many woman as lover, kill many bear". My brother, he is very wise, is greatest toymaker in all of Russia. So next day i wake up, sell my house, say goodbye to wife and children, and go to America to become millionaire. Then in America, I go to job interview and they say to me "Nikolai, you are not for the job here, you are not the skills we need, your english is poor like child". I take that man and smash his table, i say "someday i will be greatest man in all of country, your children will wish me their father!". That day my anger is best of me. It is then i know i must learn better english, so i buy book "English Grammer it is for Dummies" by Mr.Woods. Now i am perfect english grammer! I write letter to Mikhail, he write back "Nikolai, your english is like a god, you will be millionaire soon! all of Petropavlovsk is proud for you! good luck brother! please send letter when you are president or maybe even czar! Hahaha! also, your wife is killed by bear". So i say thanks to Mr.Woods for his book! When i am czar your family will be spared! Hahahaha! (is joke).

Since manual blocks are instant as far I can tell, if they sneak in the block at the last moment you won't see the animation properly before the actual block occurs.

Block animation isn't instant. Try attacking from right side and then while your attack is already released, block left. You will surely notice the time required to block when you have small amount of wpf. It seems easier to block when you have a lot of wpf and when your weapon's speed is high. The delay in blocking is the most visible when you have to cancel your attack and block the opposite side.

I was just kidding you because the exact same thing happens to me, when I die to bullshit like being stabbed through a wall because I figured the wall was made of solid enough matter for me to not have to still block or because animations are just screwed up or the server decides to screw me up by showing me the wrong blocks and attacks happening, people's first answer is to tell me I'm just a bad player and to train more or something.

You have to trust your mouse movement more than what the screen actually says. Be wary if you don't move your mouse perfectly in the direction you want. I naturally drag my mouse slightly (like a cm) towards up or down after moving it to the side, so if I press right mouse button a little later it may downblock/upblock when I don't want it to. Just understand how your hand moves and it should be fine.
