In some mods of war-band the great maul cannot side swing but can do an underhand "stab" more of a ramming. This has a low speed but a very high chance of knockdown. This is a good idea for c-RPG. Mauls would be fixed.

Instead of sideswings or with sideswings? I also don't see how you can give the great maul a slow stab [I'm assuming it'd have polearm stab since that's the only one that would make it look like a ram, and polestab is fast]
-
It is slow I think the mod is called blood and steel.
Without side swings.

No.
-
It is a polearm stab.
Ptolemy please justify your responses the mauls stats could be changed in accordance.
This would improve realism as it would be near impossible to swing a giant hammer sideways for any prolonged time and to any great effect. Most importantly game play balance and depth would be improved with Maules being more constrained and being used as more of a specific counter, rather than a cure all.

If you can't stab with a nodaichi, you can't stab with a great maul.
/thread.

Underhand stab like a war-club.
-
i use a great maul and even i think this idea is shitty
mauls would be fixed? how are they broken? i can smash peoples faces in all day with it
-
Wouldn't change the overhead.
-
WTF is the meaning of this O_O
-
Look i dont have trouble fighting against mauls i use light armour, good weapon reach and have plenty of str and athletics. After watching a fellow PK dominate a server ever though he is not PK's finest i thought that maybe the great maul should be a more specific solution to turtles and str crutching hooligans.
So if the great maul was given more speed and its attack directions were limited it would be weaker against those that it is not meant to fight and better at crushing its target audience.

Just... why ?
The only thing that would do is demolish the current maulers, even if they still had side swings. Because it happens stupidly doing a thrust instead of an overhead, and if it's a slow polearm animation, the poor mauler would be dead everytime that happens.
They don't need such a big nerf for sure.
And it would look ugly.
