Me too, but not like I cant sleep whole night, just a few hours. I cant sleep since september last year. Neighbor from down under me set up her tv just under my floor (her ceiling), and she keep watching it untill 01:00 am (I hear everything), beside my cat which is becoming more active at night, and is just everyone, the worst is when he wants to leave the room and keep jumping on the door handle.

He mostly poop at 22:00, and 04:00 these are one of the worst times to do it. It stinks so much, that I have to get up, and throw it out. Im one of these people that once they wake up, they cant sleep anymore.. which often leave me ready after 04:00 now.

I miss the no tv & cat life, but after all I like my cat, and wont get rid of it.

Tried some cheap disposable ear plugs? Get some type that aren't uncomfortable and even if they aren't that good they will block out background sound, might help

Also, my gf seems to be able to fall asleep after she ate something...when she really needs to sleep in order to wake up soon, she just eats something and goes to bed. For me it doesnt work, as if i eat and go to bed immediatelly afterwards, i throw up in the morning.

But, a nice joint or a glass of warm milk does the trick for me. Also, do not drink tea, coffe, cocacola, pepsi or any energetic shits like 4-5 hours prior to planned sleep :P

I've suffered from insomnia my whole life, usually I only sleep a few hours per night and rather often I only sleep once per every two days, especially when I was younger. It's pretty impractical, so many birthday parties, examinations and whatnot which I've had to struggle with after no sleep. Luckily, I'm really good at staying awake

Tiring yourself both physically and (especially) mentally is really the best remedy (for me at least), sleeping pills makes you a medicine-junkie and dizzy the day after, and all the tea, relaxation exercises and other alternative cures are just a waste of time.
Of course, being in front of a PC monitor shoots light rays right into your brain keeping you awake, and if you're a gamer you'll have adrenaline and similar chemicals on top of that, so cutting down on one's internet/gaming addiction is definitely not a bad idea. And yes, of course proper diet helps (helps everything really).

But you'll have a lot of time on your hands, when the days are so long, and long, creative nights :)

Hah I remember once I didn't sleep for 5 days or so, that was really tiring at the end, I just fell into my bed and slept for the rest of that day.. haha.

I wish I had Insomnia. I could get more work done.

But you can try several things to fall asleep easier:

Drink some alcohol. Apparently, it's not overly healthy, because it fucks up your REM phase etc etc. But you sleep :)
Look on youtube for "hypnosis" videos. It's doubtful that you will really be hypnotised, but the combination of slow paced voice and stereotype music apparently kicks many people nearly instantly into sheep-counting land
And last but not least, good ole auto-erotism has helped people worldwide fall asleep since.. forever.

Finally, you can always look for a long chadz's posts on forum and try to read them. This job is boring and difficult enough to put someone to sleep ;-)

Try not staring at a bright light, computer monitor/tv, right before falling asleep.

Get Flux. if you have to use your computer a lot. It changes the tint of the screen depending on what time of day it is and can ease you away from the computer.

5 days without sleep can kill.

I found out that I have the flu.  Those three days were because of the nausea and headaches. Couldn't lay down.  I'll tell you right now, after two days of no sleep, Dilirium starts to kick in and things get shitty real fast. By the third, everything became surreal.

5 days without sleep can kill.

Was many years ago, let's say it was 3-4 days then.

I don't remember it exactly.

Can we bargain it down to a day and a half?

No :D

Was way more than that, Xant.

At least 3 days, I am 100% sure of that.
I recall four though, but it was many years ago so yeah.

When I'm awake for longer than 24 hours, my body feels like it's gonna fall apart and my heart rate is a lot faster. Also if I try to exercise (running for example) I feel like I'm about to die from a stroke.

Headache, muscle tension, shaking, impaired mental ability, that's what happens when I don't sleep for longer than a day.

I once spent a week with maybe a couple of hours of blackout somewhere inbetween, felt completely delirious by the end of it, couldn't walk straight, lol

Yeah, pretty much, it usually gets better the next evening however and then it's no real problem to take yet an all-nighter, though not recommended.

Being tired or having for example an exam, a 'vacation' with the parents-in-law or a long work day and not being able to sleep is torturous in any definition of the word and you quickly become slightly insane from too little sleep. It's not something valued by partners, either..

As you draw closer to 30 you'll only need about 5 hours of sleep a day, though, so you'll have more time on your hands if you're not engaged, have children, a busy career or whatever.

24 hours without sleep have the same effect as 1 per mil alcohol in your blood.

My girlfriend falls asleep within a minute of her head hitting the pillow. I however, have to read to sleep. If I don't read I can lie awake for hours but within 10mins of reading a book I'll be out of it (unless it's an incredibly good book  :P). I'd definitely try it. Mind you I think that's because I've been reading books before I sleep since I was 8 so it's become a habitual necessity. Using your computer is certainly not a good idea though, and definitely not gaming.

Drink some alcohol. Apparently, it's not overly healthy, because it fucks up your REM phase etc etc. But you sleep :)

Alcohol induced sleep makes you feel like shit in the morning (even just a little). As do sleeping pills pretty much for the reason you stated. You do sleep, but I hate that groggy fucked up feeling you inevitably get in the morning.

When I was 19 I stayed awake once for 5 days, by day 3 I was craving a smoke constantly, always thirsty, day 4 the headaches kicked in, day 5 I really thought I would die so I fell asleep, but 2 other guys in the unit managed another 2 days. Hallucinations after day 4 though, I would never recommend it to anyone, my head has started hurting just thinking about it now 10 years later.

My old housemate said she had an exam she hadn't revised for and got through cramming the whole week by staying awake on Speed. At least 5 days there...

Didn't quite have hallucinations, but was talking (and thinking) complete nonsense, as if i was heavily drugged or something. Was actually fun in a way

Yes cause your brain is really awesome at remembering things when its about to implode.

If you stayed awake for over 2-3 days, dont smoke weed if you arent looking for a psychosis.

Have sex, excellent way of tiring yourself out, and as a bonus, you feel awesome afterwards!

6 am, Jilly's Rockworld Manchester. There's 1 hour left before everyone finally gets kicked out. For the last 1-2 hrs, the remaining hard core "all nighters" have been sitting around tables, heads resting on their arms, and then this song comes on.

Insanely i rush to the dancefloor alone, and dance to this great tune before i grab my bag and head to the train station.

How does this help your insomnia? Fuck knows!

When I stay awake for longer than 28 hours straight I tremble and I can really feel my body working. Like, my brain makes noise, my heart moves, shit like that. Also, I puke if I drink coffee without eating something. Other than that, I feel okay. My perception and reflexes also seem to be more swift and accurate.

try autoerotic asphyxia, its where you strangle yourself slowly while masturbating. But be careful that you don't die like that dude from INXS I think, or George Micheal, can't remember which one.

George Michael is still alive. David Carradine (Kill Bill) apparently died from this.
