Title: Bastard on a horse
Post by: Sawbone on May 09, 2012, 04:28:04 am
Yeah my father was the milkman - learned it today.

Other than that, if I use a Heavy bastard sword on a horse (without a shield), will I be using the 1H or 2H skill?

Cheers,

i tried 2h on horse but it was hard. Your weapons are slower on horse,i would suggest you go 1h cav instead 2h.
But i must say this,i saw one dude with morningstar on horse and he was awsome. I think katana is better choice if you realy want to be 2h cav. :)

Use shortened military scythe on horseback, it's damage is great, it's length is great and it has decent speed even when downed.

Morningstar is a great weapon from horseback, that much pierce damage with a speed bonus easily negates the loss in swing speed and raw damage given. I can guarantee its more than possible to top scoreboards as 2h cav and its a whole lota fun.

1h cav does have many advantages over 2h cav, but 2h is arguably more effective on foot.

24/15 Morningstar cav = win.

1 shot people up to 50 armor if you are running top speed.  2-3 shot plate crutchers like Serge.

Yeah that is true, but how you menage to get so close to enemy unnoticed? Usualy if enemy is aware he will kill you or wound your horse.

Wait until they engage other infantry or attack distracted enemy.  Bump/Slash dueling enemies.  Flanking in general.  Favorite tactic is rushing the main group when the round starts, having the archers shoot while infantry chase you splitting infantry and archers and engaging archers once there is some room between the 2.

Take a heavy horse, warhorse balances good armour with decent speed :)

If you want to use a fast/agile horse you will need to use a longer weapon for sure.

i tried 2h cav with light horse and it was total fail. It dies so easily, but i notice that mamluk cav don't care about dmg or enemy awernes. they just charge, and kill. :D

Champion Large Warhorse is best.

Same size no? Little bit better stats on the Large, and fits Viking theme a bit better ;)

Nope, large warhorse uses the same horse model as a charger, the warhorse the same as a destrier. :)

It would be nice if the horse scales are displayed at the website like in the older days.

Wow - thanks for the feedback folks.

I'm actually using my brand new MW bastard sword - I've almost always used that weapon and finally loomed it to +3 yesterday!

I'm usually always a footman, right now I'm getting some riding skill to be a god damned horse thief. I don't have the resources to afford the horse upkeep (yeah I'm very bad at managing money). Last gen I had shield skill and never used it.

Here the build i'm planning to try out:

Level 31 (8 892 403 xp)

Strength: 18
Agility: 21

Hit points: 53
Skills to attributes: 6

Power Strike: 6
Athletics: 7
Riding: 6
Weapon Master: 7
Two Handed: 141
Polearm: 112

And yes - Polearm is just for when I'll be stealing a nice one on the field ;)

Otherwise i might just pump everything into 2H - should give 160ish. Still not decided on this.

I've got myself a MW Bastard sword atm as well.  ive got 6 PS also, only 5 riding however.

Must say i much prefer the Morning-star from horseback, but as mentioned before it aint got much reach. Less than most 1h cav.

Bastard sword is nice but the damage isn't the best, still nice and cheap for upkeep.

Sounds like you want cheap.  Shortened Military scythe (range + damage) The speed decrease is negated by the fact you are on a Corvette.  Heavy horse I have found to be almost a must.  Leg > Body > Head armor secondly, in that order (greaves with spurs because you are cav.. js) If you aren't going heavy horse/morningstar scythe/cheap horse.

i am using MW heavy bastard sword on champion destrier....although i have 146 wpf on 2h and 8 Pstrike

but i feel it's still too slow on horseback to deal enough damage...

i believe the swing speed on horseback  effect the damage cause the sweet spot ...

so....should i change MW bastard sword will be better ??

or MW long sword is another good choice ?

ps. i dont want katana...thx
