Title: AntiVir FreeAV reports virus
Post by: dodnet on May 03, 2012, 10:38:48 pm
AntiVir FreeAV reports viruses in the mb_warband_old.exe and WSELoader.exe. I'm sure its a false positive, but still can this be fixed?

Yes, by getting an antivirus that doesn't suck.

I'm quite happy with it and in most tests it has good results, so your argument is worthless

You can try to add these to exceptions (I have antivir too and it doesnt work, I disable it completely when I play in case it jinx my game).

Yes, as shown by the first post where it managed to detect not one, but two false positives.
An outstanding product, really.

Avira keeps detecting it too.

@down

I guess the acronym used by the op might relate to anything really, though google indeed points at Avira when you search for "free AV".

Isn't that the same? Avira AntiVir?

What does the Almighty cmp recommend for us peasants?

Just for the record: I'm talking about Avira Free Antivirus. Was saying FreeAV as they once had a website with that name. Sorry for any confusion.

Of course I added these two files as exceptions, but still I would like not be forced to do that.

well.... there are three ways for you to solve this:
1. Get another antivirus like CalmWin (it's opensource http://www.clamwin.com/ (http://www.clamwin.com/))
2. Linux http://www.ubuntu.com/ (http://www.ubuntu.com/) another opensource solution.
3. ReactOS http://www.reactos.org/ (http://www.reactos.org/) guess what? it's opensource too!

What a fucking stupid post.
1. "Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner. You need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware." - very useful!
2 and 3. well, at least you have to stop playing cRPG then, nice one...

well, if you'll  insult everyone that tryes to help you, then you wont get any help at all.
I, for instance, don't use any antivirus on windows and manage to play under linux just fine.

Well sorry, I didn't even think you meant that serious. Was a bit angry after cmp's reaction too. :?
Especially as ReactOS is almost useless for gaming. Personally I find it quite risky to use windows without any antivirus realtime scanner, not to think about no AV at all.

Well, i myself havn't had any luck running ReactOS on AMD machine, but thats just lack of compatibility. Intel users are running some games pretty good. And having no antivirus isn't that bad as long as you don't visit those you-know-what sites. at-least the really dirty ones ;)
But the problem that some AVs recognise these EXEs as viruses, is because they patch either some files on your hard drive or in the RAM.
(script enhancer patches ram for example).

I have  the latest Norton... it deletes the file CRPG-Installer when I download it. Same thing during the launch.

For some reason i assume that the cRPG might gather some info, hopefully "bugs", without your knowledge?

I have to check that with one of my good programmer friends ;)

No, it doesn't gather any info - it's just Norton sucking (big surprise there).

Tried to get someone on my steamlist to download c-rpg, first thing he got when he downloaded the mod from the website, was a virus. Well he didn't get it but his antivirus program said so.

Microsoft Security Essentials (freeware) or Eset NOD32(not freeware) are just fine with crpg/wse launcher.

AVAST is ok

AVAST is ok

Well, Notron and other are not OK!!!! So, unless the dude will change the cRPG installer, many people will not play again. I don't care what you guys say. No other game will show VORUUS in the FILE!!!!!!!!!!

Virus alerts will scare away new people. Should cRPG be a game for only those with expert knowledge about computers?

Contacting the antivirus company and reporting the false positive can get them to add your files to a global exception list.
And no longer will everyone get alerts.

Or maybe those "many" (it is actually like 2 people) will get that their antiviruses suck ass and actually get an antivirus which will let them run a harmless app

That relies on people spontaneously getting smarter. Not realistic.
