Title: Most underused class of player
Post by: tillmash on May 03, 2012, 08:15:29 pm
Can someone please give me a suggestion as to what is the most underplayed, possibly crap playstyle.
I ,personally, cannot enjoy a game unless i play some outrageously stupid underpowered class, i just like stupidly tough challenges.

So what is the most underused or ridiculous class?

Horseback throwing, dagger cavalry, over 10 PD archery.

Archery with a longbow, short spear + shield hoplite, dagger/no shield, etc.

You wanted an underpowered character, you figure it out

And, it's polearm wpf, of course.

Well i want underplayed due to being underpowred, i don't specifically want to nerf myself by having , like, no ps for example.

I just want a class that people think is crap.

i was toying around with the damage calculator, the spear and shield does fuck all damage.
So it's a possibility ;)

any more suggestions?

Hoplites are not considered weak. So, you'll have to find another class.

Short spear or spear hoplite is hardly a hoplite. Has all the disadvantages of the class, none of the advantages (low damage, short reach, one attack direction).

If you want to be viable with that...

over 10 pd gives you no extra  dmg

Hmm, then I see going with a weak item is also considered as a build. So, go for horse archer that uses a short bow.

Bump-oriented cavalry. Go super high agility and put tons of ranks in riding/shield. Fly around the map like a metal bowling ball and knock down rows of archers or clumps of bad infantry. Plated charger upkeep is kind of high, but it's a lot of fun.

Hybrid throwing/melee "fake peasant" with light armor, stones, and your choice of polearm or 1h weapon.

I'm sure there's some way to go dagger/3x throwing daggers or shuriken and do well. But splitting between STR/PT and AGI/athletics means you won't be the fastest nerd on the server, usually.

Heavy Lance hoplite? lol

Hmm hoplite ish builds come to mind.

How about a bamboo spear wielding, one slot shield using hoplite build with a shortened spear as a secondary weapon? Rare enough and still very effective, especially with all the cav around lately.

Or go for a mounted thrower. Not many of those around. Wouldn't it be cool (and useless) to run around on horseback chucking axes at people whilst doing a drive-by? Also a good anti-cav class if you use javelins or throwing spears...

If that's not rare or unique enough: make a full tincan strength build mallet guy and let him ride around on a stumpter for movement. Maybe a 30/6 build? Take 2 shield to stay alive whilst riding / walking.

Ofcourse, you can always do some high athletics, high weapon mastery shielder build and use a flanged mace and dance around and spam people.

I also like the fake peasant suggestion, but it's been done too often.

2 good shields (with high body armor and coverage) usable on horseback, mamluk horse and a pickaxe.

You can try «Daggerman» build. Long dagger as main weapon, and throwing daggers as «Who is your daddy?» weapon.

Doubt that you need more than 100 wpf in 1H for weapon with 112 speed.

No block is a feature of this build

I dont see lots of cav with swingable polearms like hafted blade.

They are underpowered until you figure out how to properly use them I guess.

One of my favourite builds:

3 str
39 agi

13 shield
4 athletics

Use a shitty shield (like practice shield) and weakest spear or long dagger.
Best build to defend flag, or hold flag since your shield won't break. Also very fun to play in Battle.

I've been playing a 36/3 build using long weapons (scythe, fauchard, bill) and loomed quarterstaff. Scythe and fauchard make people rage especially when you kill them with jumpswings, so it's always fun to listen to them afterwards (although good players counter it easily). Some even started a rage thread to nerf scythe because of builds like this using it (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,18669.0.html), and it did work.

I can do as much if not even more damage (depending on speed bonus / angle) with my quarterstaff than people using danish with lower PS. On top of that it's very fast, as long as a poleaxe, got knockdown (low weight but knockdown chance also depends on damage dealt so it does happen relatively often), cheap, 1 slot and thus useful for lots of builds as backup weapon, as long as you've got decent PS ofc.

You're very slow as a pure str build like this but you can deal very high damage with pretty much any weapon. You might need time to get used to it but it surely is fun and underused (at least with the weapons I mentionned).

High agi build with a dagger and low armor. Possibly combined with throwing (low pt) to stun and annoy people. If you know how to chamber and use your wits you can get some really hilarious kills

Maybe something like this?

Or maybe a shotgun fighter with an arbalest for sniping, normal/ligh crossbow for shotgunning and 1 stack of bolts and a 0slot stick

How about a bamboo spear wielding, one slot shield using hoplite build with a shortened spear as a secondary weapon? Rare enough and still very effective, especially with all the cav around lately.

This is how I normally play except I use the ashwood pike instead of a bamboo spear. I wouldn't call it very effective and it would be a stretch to call it effective. I find it very difficult to play due to the mighty downblock and nerfed damage/speed when using a shield. There is always the option of not using the shield but then why use a spear when you can use a poleaxe of some sort. The shortened spear is fast but lacks range. I get outranged by two handers all of the time and even light armored opponents take three stabs on average to kill. Heavy armored players will laugh at you and then split your skull. Also, you will get spammed to hell by 2h's as soon as they see you.

As an alternative, you could try what I am trying at the moment which is a hoplite/thrower build, but tbh so far it's gimmicky at best and throwing lances require 21 strength which means only a maximum of 15 agility and very light armor.

Hoplite's really need an overhead attack of some sort to make the downblock not 100% effective against frontal stabs.

Denbitre's King Glyph does well as a hoplite.

Denbitre's King Glyph does well as a hoplite.

I see other hoplites occasionally, but they usually use their spear as a 2h weapon, which to me, defeats the purpose of having a hoplite build. I have yet to see anyone else use a shortened spear on a hoplite build. It's not really a good combination due to the short range and low damage that is why I suggested it, but I'm determined to make this work somehow.

You could roleplay a slinger. Or a stationary missile launcher. Only put points into power throw and weapon master, nothing else. Convert everything else.

Sounds quite feasible. 21/21 7 PT 7 WM 3 Athletics or 3 Shield.

Shortbow, arrows, stones, and a shield on a sumpter horse.
