Title: weird keyboard option problem
Post by: Gatsby on April 28, 2012, 06:10:59 pm
Hi, dunno why but all of a sudden my keyboard options reset everytime i quit the game (either native or crpg)
the general options and video options are ok and remain saved, but i always have to redefine keys..
Any help? it's quite annoying

hmm my best guess would be your profiles.dat and or pref.dat in
X:\Users\YourUserName\AppDate\Roaming\Mount&Blade Warband\ is write protected or corrupted.
If you are running XP it might not have the Roaming folder.

Try backing up the pref.dat once (rename to pref.dat.bak or something)
Then launch the game and redo all settings, check if it helps.

If not do the same to your profiles.dat and try again. (this will remove all your chars inside warband)
If both doesn't help just delete the freshly created .dat files and rename the old ones back.

There is a n easier option though.
When you assign the keys do not press OK. go to another tab, than click OK.
Hope it works out for you. But if it doesn't, go back to keyboard tab and press "default" then "undo" and then "OK".

I have the same problem in Napoleonic Wars. It might be a problem if we switch between different mods?

yes, it happens when you switch to other mod that uses some unique keys like crouch and voice menu.
I had it and successfully fixed it with the method i described above.

in the properties of "mbwarband.exe" check the "run as administrator" checkbox.
the files are in "c:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\Mount&Blade Warband\"
note that "Application Data" is hidden folder, so you'll have to type it manually in the address bar, or enable "show hidden folders" by pressing CTRL+H.
thats how it should look:
(click to show/hide)

You could also try %APPDATA% - it should redirect you to the correct path. Just enter this in Explorer.

tnx for bringing it up.
ye you'll have to do it that way, cos the "c:\documents and settings" is a system locked folder.

If you're using Windows 7 there is no actual application data folder, although it looks as though there is. The files are in appdata/roaming, but don't worry about it because the fix won't work anyway.
