I was just in siege and some dudes build a forward spawn in the gatehouse. I thought, "Oh hell yeah, that's awesome!"
Then the dudes who built it got teamswitched.
They were able to open the gate for their attacker friends right off the bat and easily got inside with a massive first spawn zerg rush into the castle. It took several respawns after that for them to finally win but they had control of the gatehouse for the entire round.
Not sure to call it strategy or exploitation but I wouldn't recommend leaving it as is.
EDIT: And yes, we destroyed the Forward Spawn first chance we got, but we were not able to make up the ground we lost at the beginning of the round.

+1 to this idea, i've had two experiences with forward spawns. One that you described with many people getting teamswitched and it was a gagglefuck at the spawn. The other was with clanmates where we build one really close to a backdoor and each subsequent round we just jumped on the flag for an easy win.
It's a little overpowered in it's current incarnation allowing it to persist through the rounds.

This is an issue. The thing is a complete gamble. I've built them only to have all the guys that used it flip side and completely rape me as I spawned :D
Going to spec fixed the problem for me, so if team swapping could some how also send you off to spec first that might do the trick, then they would be a great tool.
I've done some great "ninja" work with them recently. I wouldn't go so far as to call it exploiting, primarily because its REALLY REALLY HARD. First you have to ninja into a hidden safe spot, build a weapons rack, then build the forward base, then call you team mates in to use it. About a million things usually go wrong however and you get pwned most times trying to attempt a ninja spawn.
I think that just stopping the team swapping issue would be enough, at least as a first step. Then we could see if it was OP from there.
