Depends on your build and play style.  For agility stay under 15k since that will only slow you down, for strength you might want to try something heavier or even something lighter then that.  Experiment and find out what you like.

I find that Heraldic Mail with Tabard, is a good point for your everyday armour.

Ah but you see, Heraldic mail with tabard gives you 40 body armour
The tunic over mail + mail mittens ALSO gives you 40 body armour
BUT the tunic and mittensd is lighter and cheaper by atleast 1000!
Personally, anything up to the 50 body armour region is ok

well yes heraldic mail with tabard/surcoat is somewhat a standard these days with 13 weight and 42 body armour is a great choice.

it also depends on the build but slower guys do tend to wear haeavier armours with IF so they can recieve allot more damage and the extra speed you get from mail isnt worth it compared to plate protection in a rumble.

so basically its really slow heavy hitting guys vs really fast spammers.

id say its worth it if you know you wont be able to block every single attack but you know that dude falls as soon as you touch him. 30/9 or 27/12 builds its worth it.

i rarely go full plate maybe for fun with clan mates the only reason i dont often is the price, but i stick with transitional and even with 4 IF it gives me great moverability and protection

Imo elite everything after elite doesn't give enough armor for how heavy it is

I love sarranid guard armor very good body armor, remember foot hits do half damage and helmet hits do double: low leg armor good high head armor or nothing(on head)

I thought foot/leg hits did 75% damage, not 50%.

I prefer the Haubergeon for light armor then either sarranid guard armor or if you want to go higher either the elite armor or transitional armor.

Anything above will make you very slow for a minimal improvement but at the same time more costly. I'd rather use better gloves on cheaper armor than use most of the plates atm.
