Title: Control Attack Direction
Post by: Zeul on April 24, 2012, 08:42:19 pm
Just a quick question. I'm fairly new and having trouble deciding what Control Attack Direction setting to pick from the menu. When I had it on mouse, it rarely worked and made me change my point of view annoyingly losing track of people. When I have it on movement keys, I can't move in one direction and attack in the other without stopping. How do you guys do it?

Practice. Some players have been playing for a very long time. The more you play, the easier it gets. Practice against the singleplayer bots in tutorial.

Think of it as representitive of the chaos of a heated melee!

I typically use "by reverse mouse movement" as it seems more intuitive to me.  Go to the duel server, pick up some rocks and a practice sword and practice.  cRPG, like everything in this world gets easier as you do it more and more.  Muscle memory and intuition must work together, and without the schema to draw reference from, you're missing one half of the equation.

If you ever see me on, feel free to call me out for some duels.  I'm the Frail Old Man.

Some players are playing this mod for more than 1,5 years now... (btw, im feel old by typing this  )
Get on the duel server ( EU3 ) for 1 or 2 days and practice against real players (the bots suck ! ).

Use the mouse for it, and try using less mouse movement.

Like Tiberias said; Practice, practice, practice.

Keyboard setting doesn't allow such free movement as mouse option does.
Also, play around with mouse sensivity, might help.

Decrease the sensitivity! It works.

Also, i wish i could change the x and y sensitivity separately... maybe they can implement this in the new M&B.

You should do only minimal movement with your mouse if you do not want to to turn your camera.

I use reversed mouse direction for attacks as it feels more intuitive to me, with normal mouse direction for blocks. The keyboard option isn't optimal as it hinders your freedom.

Use whatever feels most intuitive and natural for you. For me, it is also inverse attack directions.

A few anecdotal points on inverse attack directions:

1) Makes intentional chambering less intuitive because the mouse movement is opposite that of blocking, which should be set to normal mouse movement.

2) Makes spin attacks easier, as the way you move your mouse turns you into your attack.

3) I have had clan members tell me that they feel awkward fighting me because my footwork is weird (ie, inverse of what their footwork, since the majority of them use normal attack directions).
