as the title says, what are some of the best/better dueling weapons in the polearms category?
-
War Spear and Bec come to mind.
Any of the poleaxes are pretty good too.
-
Hafted and Long Hafted Blade come to mind as well, also the Long Bardiche.
I have a personal like for the Great Long Bardiche, but the unbalanced weight of the weapon turns most people off. It doesn't bother me most of the time, seeing as I don't feint that much anyway
-
I'd say LHB or Glaive
-
Poleaxe and LHB
-
Qstaff
-
poleaxe.
-
War Spear, Glavie, the Poleaxes, LHB.
The Scythe and Fauchard are pretty epic for dueling as well, but boring.
The Practice Lance is incredibly underrated, but not really top-tier.
My personal favourite for pure dueling is probably the War Spear (Red Tassel is a tad weak), but then I see duels as practice for battle so I'd advice you to use whatever gear you use in battle.
-
Swiss halberd can be a good weapon if you know how to use it as well. I've seen a guy who does that in duel servers.
-
Poleaxe.
-
Glaive is realy good.
-
Ok ill probably use the warspear. namely because i still wanna hoplite at times. but when i find mysellf solo i dont wanna be totally at a disadvantage...
build wise im still torn between a 24/15 & 18/21

If you're familiar with polearm animations, then 18/21 is almost certainly the better choice. You will have enough ath to help get yourself out of nasty situations, and you'll be better able to use footwork to sneak hits in. Also, as a hoplite you'll be far better able to stick yourself where you are useful. You will be relying primarily on polestun to line up kills for teammates (the warspear doesn't deal much damage with a shield).
If not, then 24/15 will help prevent glancing, and will let you score kills with fewer hits. 5 ath is enough to footwork decently in a 1v1 with a weapon as long as the warspear, but it isn't enough to keep yourself from getting surrounded in battle (so you'll have to pay extra attention to what both teams are doing).
Make sure to put your shield away vs a competent opponent in a 1v1 scenario. I can't think of anything less intimidating than a hoplite in that situation.

Good dueling polearms for fun duels (for both participants) :D:
hafted blade
long hafted blade
poleaxes
warspear
Duels that will be fun only for you (lot of cursing as bonus):
Ashwood pike or Awlpike
glaive
bardiches
fauchard, scythe

i havent master'd the 2 directional weapons, probably because im a terrible fainter...

should consider going 21/18 also. That was my build for awhile and it seemed to work quite well while using war spear.
-
see everyone mentions footwork to me from time to time, but i havent a clue wtf that means?

Moving your character with the intent it to sneak hits in, to avoid hits, to force glances, and to position yourself advantageously in group combat. The faster you are, the more options there are that open up.
-
so ath has something to do with it, yet i know a few players with none.... and they do well, i guess its just another ill never truly understand :'(
-
also what armor looks best with the battle fork? preferably light armor...
-
I used reinforced nomad armour with battefork.
-
Poleaxe.
My favorite.
Qstaff
If you have 7+ ath. Or against someone with short weapon. Otherwise the backpaddling spammers will get you :)

You don't really make much sense here. The difference between Quarter Staff's length and Poleaxe's length is 4. How can poleaxe be your favourite while the quarter staff is much too short? They're almost the same length-wise :|

Something with animation I guess, thrust/stab on a poleaxe seems to be much longer.
Lets say if someone with Great Danish is charging me - i can prepare my poleaxe for thrusting, and take a chance on attacking first. With a staff - its not an option, I will have to block. Overhead swing seems to be very short on staffs too :(
That might be just an optical illusion of cause...

Yes, it is, Quarter Staff is only 4 points shorter on all animations. You're not talking about Iron Staff? That one's quite a bit shorter than the quarter one. Also, if you out-thrust some greatsword user with a poleaxe he might just be the worst player ever.

OK, ok, you got me i guess :)
I would probably not try to counter-thrust a Greatsword, but against a side swing its possible. Let me keep some of my dignity :)
There is something special about poleaxe - it puts fear of god into peasants when i start chaining feints. On the other hand - no one really takes a staff user seriously. There is no "holly shit, i better keep my block up and stay away from that awesome guy" factor about staffs...

Backpeddling spammers won't get you if you don't follow them ^^

It might be poleaxe is a high damage, and quarter staff is not. So basically, you have to be careful with the staff to not make it glance and with poleaxe you can swing safely.
