Title: cRPG Figures
Post by: chadz on April 21, 2012, 07:37:52 pm
Silly question day:

would you be interested in having a tool that takes a 3d snapshot of your char with all it's equipment and exports it in a format that would allow you to print it out with a 3d printer? What would such a figure be worth to you, money-wise?  :D

Really good idea, you could make some decent money selling those. Not from me, unfortunately.

I wouldn't really have the time to print and ship those things myself, I just thought it could be interesting and might even lead to a nice sub-hobby for some people here :P

However, you'd probably have to pay 50 to 150 euros for it when ordering it regularly ( eg http://www.shapeways.com/support/pricing )

3D printers don't color everything. The figure would be all 1 color. Not worth it to me.

new printers seem to have the ability of doing color prints.

What size the figure could be? This is sounds cool as hell but figures size of a match box costing over 50 euros isn't too tempting.

I'm interested if I manage to get access to the makerbot at the university.

The figure would only have one color but heh once you have the 3D printer using it costs pretty much nothing.

Forget the paper, cRPG player's characters should be made like G.I. Joe action figures with all their tiny equipment and stuff, 1 char per account, your main probably.

I love this kinda stuff. Not sure I understand the new fangled 3d technology in question, if it's just on paper or actual 3d material, but were it to be the latter I'd pay up to like 15 bucks for that. Paper... maybe 5.

I would pay like $50-80 for a small figure a few inches tall with its own little case like World of Warcraft does.

it sounds like a great idea if you guys could do that and ide be sure to buy one :D

I preferr the classic merchandising like a Tshirt with some random crpg shit or a magnet for the fridge with the face of gnjus and everkistus or a keyring with the words "nerf archery"  hahahahah hehehehehe meh

I would pay for that. Believe me.

The only time I'd even consider this is if we did a complete overhaul to armours and items, because some are in desperate need for major improvement and others slight tweaks for homogeneous aesthetics.

I'd love if armours were in real life scales in-game, but I have no idea how this would be accomplished or applied as effectively as possible.

You sure about that?

Plastic isnt as cheap as people think generally, and plastic designed packaged and sold to mom and pop maker machine owners probably has a high added premium by suppliers...

You know why G.I Joe figures went from 12 inches to 5 in the 1980's right?  Because the plastic to make the 12 inchers was prohibitively expensive compared to the markets willingness to buy it.

And a mom and pop w/ a maker machine., I would assume would be paying alot more for their usable plastic than say, Mattel Corporation....

Yes t-shirts (or hoodies) with funny cRPG stuff would be awesome :) that way people could tell that you play cRPG in the streets (if you ever go out, that is)

I dont think voodooing our pixelated counterparts would have your desired effect. We already show no pain, other than the ocasional groan. And i doubt a needle would do much to a guy that can take a greatsword hit to the face

Market on what people enjoy is always a good way to go.

I have to say, this seems like a great idea and I wouldn't mind forking out that money to buy one. (So long as we could completely customise the looks of each item, for example, exchanging the longbow model for the original one)

As I say, I would buy one on a whim.

Btw : I remember Varyag posted a link to a Tee-Shirt selling site where you could buy cRPG tees.

Sheet, I can make crpg tee's if anyone wants em.

I already make shirts for my clan, and have an online T-shop.

One offs would be digital pics and text though - not worth the time/money ratio otherwise ( i make about 2-3 bucks a shirt)

Gotta clan that wants a shirt though, depending on how much demand, I can make original designs, requests for original symbols, the whole nine yards.

Can print it on pretty much anything too - Long sleeve, short, Hoodies, hell can even put it on a hat. My Snowhawk frosted Beermugs are pretty popular among the Snawks  :P

Just pm me if anyone is actually interested, I've got all the tools set up already to do it, and have it available for people to buy pronto, already have Accounts on zazzle to do so.   8-)

Of course thats if it doesnt chap chadz ass, But if its a clan shirt, that generally has nothing to do with a specific game, so there's no conflict there that I can see.

Perhaps if I did character shirts, I could do it with a royalty to the chadzmeister, maybe a little increased cut to crpg, but as I said, I make only about 10-15% on a shirt, so it wouldnt be much.

You could make it yourselves there too if you wanted, but it would take several hours to get going, I've got a professional drawing pad, fonts yada yada, and all you'd save is the 2 or three bucks I'd make.  But thats an option too.

I didnt mention this because i'd make anything significant, just thought I'd offer if there's a demand, maybe make a couple extra bucks, as any money is good money these days.

You must buy a $120 figurine which comes with a USB hook-up to your computer to log into your character, he comes naked though and you have to buy the specially magnetized weapons and armor for an additional $14.99 to use them in game.

Of course the items will break sometimes so you have to pay up 5% of the original price for the magnets to work again.
