1. I made sure to turn off the automatic updates in the properties of the game on steam.
2. I went to program files, clicked on steam, steamapps, and then common.
3. I right clicked on mount and blade warband and went to the properties.
4. I clicked on the previous versions tab and selected an option prior to the update.
5. I moved that version to my desktop, deleted the previous one and replaced it with the older version by dropping it in the common folder.
I don't know how far back your previous version is, but this worked for me.

I disabled this "previous version" stuff
BECAUSE I NEVER HAD ENOUGH FREE SPACE

Since you now have the original 1.143 Steam exe could you please upload it for us?
Would be much appreciated.

Im not sure that will be enough.

It's on Vista and 7, and works only if you left the automatic backup stuff enabled.

Didn't the OP claim it works for him now?

Should be atleast in win7

He reverted the whole m&b - warband directory, not just the exe

Ah sorry, my reading comprehension is pants when I'm tired.
Now I understand how he fixed it, thanks.
Currently rolling back the directory to yesterday, thanks OP.

Yes and this method obviously works. Confirmed by SoO
-
this worked 4 me. great thinking
-
Any chance of a workaround if I didn't do anything with the "automatic backup" stuff?
-
Great suggestion, worked for me. My only question is do you have to copy the previous version to your desktop and overwrite the existing one? Can't you simple restore the previous version? Anyways, it worked and that's all that matters. Thanks dude.

And if you have the steam version (yeah you pretty sure have it if you're reading this), remember to go to your games library and disable updates for warband after each time you stop playing. Steam is a bitch and puts it automatically back to auto updates after every time you've played warband. Yeah that's stupid. I don't know who the hell is the retard who made it like that, but just saying it can't be changed.

Fack! I don't have previous versions! I did have a Windows restore point from 4/17, which I figure was before the Steam patch...but that didn't work.
Waiting on a patch then, I guess.

Just letting everyone know that you only need the 1.143 exe to run it properly again.
Just find your old mb_warband.exe and replace the 1.150 one and ta-daa!

worked like a charm, only instead of deleting the old one i renamed it to include the talesworld patch number if then cRPG would be using that later on
