I started playing again now, but..
With all these one-sided matches, ridiculous balancing methods, and myself failing sometimes, I can't get that damned multiplier up, so even if our team wins, I end up losing money!
My main gear:
Faceplate
Mail&Plate
Mail Mittens
Iron Greaves
Elegant poleaxe,+pike or halberd depending on the match.
With this gear I always end up losing money, I tried using a Mail with Surcoat instead of Mail&Plate (the Green one), but I still can't make money.
Don't tell me, that I have to play in rags to get some cash? o.O
When I started, I had 35k.. now I'm at 10k, and it's just going down..

You can use about 20k gold worth of stuff with every multiplier, so if you're on a constant x1 you'd only be able to go 20k, if you're on a constant x5 you'd be able to upkeep up to 100k.
-
Well, cheaper gear does mean cheaper upkeep, at least until you rebuild your warchest. Also it seems to me (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) siege maps are easier to make money on than battle maps.

Yes, siege lets you gain xp/gold at a more constant rate and is also a longer round. Although it increases your chances of having to repair your items, you still end up making more money than in battle because of the increased duration of earnings.

recently came back and have the same problem. tbh i run around in a robe most of the time and save the transitional/courser when i finally get that multiplier working
-
From the way it sounds you're just getting bitchslapped with repair costs. A run of bad luck, I suggest just lowering the total cost of your equipment. Or what I love to do, run around in peasant rags with my beloved warspear and keel people.
-
You can still upkeep a nice lvl of equipment, you don't have to run in rags! :)
I find that I can upkeep, over a playing session, 30k

Instead of the Mail and Plate, use the tunic over mail, or the mail shirt/hauberk. Instead of the elegant poleaxe, keep using the halberd. The mittens won't stop you from getting one-shot, so you can drop them for a few rounds, and your legs get a natural damage reduction (like the head gets a bonus), so you can get away with mail boots, or even leather. And never carry two weapons, the halberd can fill the piking role pretty well,
-
My main gear:
Faceplate 5990
Mail&Plate 15750
Mail Mittens 1376
Iron Greaves 3822
Elegant poleaxe, 12000
pike 1600
Total cost 40 500 gold
If you want to have the same equipment all the time without loosing money your total cost need to be near 35 000 gold with a buffer of 20 000 gold in your chest.
For exemple if you switch to long hafted blade instead of EP your total gear cost will be around 33 000 gold and you wil start making money again.
Try it

I'm running around with a total gear worth of a bit over 40k. With around 50k gold saved up, i seem to be financially stable enough.

In those 40k do you have heirloomed item? because they cost more in the game than what you pay for upkeep.
For example a balanced "something" will cost 10k but you will pay upkeep for it s original price of 7k.
I did that mistake that's why i m asking.
-
Yeah, but i am over 40k even without that. It is just that you need that 50k gold buffer to avoid going broke over short periods of bad luck or such.
-
I have 4 sets of plate I like to run around in and 148385 gold in the bank. It isnt hard to step down to some cloth armours for a while and make some money while kicking ass, might help you learn to block a bit also
-
ok, just asking :D
The OP seem to have problem with 40k maybe he just didn' t have enough buffer for the long term. He should still lower he 's total equipment cost by a few thousand of gold until he find the right balance for him.

Addiction to being robocop is why this patch was rolled out, no?
(Blue) Hood
Padded Leather
Hunter Boots
Leather Gloves
Fine Warbow
3x Bodkins
Gen 5
I dont even check my bank balance, if I could gift platemail to my friends I would tho....

Well, as an archer it's a No-brainer to use next to no armor. :)
I'll try some of these suggestions when I've got the time, thanks guys.

I had a friend of mine doing the math with the following parameters:
50% chance win/loss
Win= multiplier+1 (4 consecutive wins to get maximum multplier of x5)
Loss=multiplier set to 1
What's the average multiplier I play on?
His answer based on 7 levels of probability (what ever the hell that means) was x1.764.
That makes the average upkeepable amount of gold about 44k.
Bare in mind this number is in no way exact and is based on an infinite series of trials. When playing with your badass clanmates on a low pop server vastly increases the chance of a x5 multiplier and playing on siege mode gives lower results.

As a helpful reply Ill agree with Spawny, 20k is bot of the tank minimun if u have a very small wallet for repairs. Its definitly not worth damaging ur items and not being able to repair. Once you have a "stake" of cash to work from, you can usually confortably run 40k of gear, sometimes splashing out on a spare weapon when the goings especially good, OR when its especially bad.
Try with leathers and 1 single weapon. See how fast you make gold. Then once you have a few k's of gold in the bank, start to incorporate more of your ideal gear, in order of how important each piece is to you. Gradually find the "balance point" of the scales, where you have gear on you are happy(ish) with, and save the really expensive stuff untill you are on that x5 for map or so, and wont feel the pinch.
Also, if you are on a smallish server, and are risking expensive gear to gain a win (and a multiplier), push your advantage HARD. Remember, more time spent using your gear, more likely it will break, so put on the plate, push hard, secure the win, and probably not even pay a penny.

Good ideas, thanks for sharing them. Also I'm thinking about using my courser I kept again, but these prices and all the ranged characters discourage me from doing it.

Well, again, get the riding points, but if you hybridize well, you can save the pony for when you can afford it.
And when theres really NO cash and you dont wanna be isntagankable to everyone, theres always:
Studded Leather Coat 2679
weight 5
head armor 0
body armor 30
leg armor 10
requirement 8
ugly, but efficient and allows fast running speeds. Combine with a mail coif, leather boots, mail mitts, grab a polearm, and your making money AND sliced salami out of enemies.....

Hell yeah. I'll definitely get an "Economical" set of armour when I'll have some more cash.
