how does someone with Zero proficiency in a weapon have the skill to block like the best warrior ever?
Doesn't make any sense make blocking slower, or ineffective, and better the higher your WPF in what your using to block with.
-
Make headshots automatic with high wpf!
-
that doesn't make any sense. with high WPF your swing is faster, and your aim is better so it already helps with the Headshots

What i meant by my statement is: this mod is intended to be different from all the other mmo's and skill, human skill is essential. According to me... That real skill necessity makes Crpg worth playing.
To some extent, i think that attack and block are already affected by your wpf... I mean with 1 wpf, i can block some hits... but I rarely land a strike afterwards.

somethings are just ridiculous, someone with good manual blocking will be just as good, the difference is they will have to decide do you want to be a hybrid with poor blocking, or a good melee fighter with fast blocking? Make players Choose what they want to do. Want to have 100/100 in throwing and 2hand? fine, but when you goto block its going to be slower then someone who has 150 in 2h
-
Lower wpf means lower weapon speeds, so this already gives an edge towards players with wpf.
Anywho, a skilled player will always decimate an average player regardless of wpf.

The same way people that know how to quickscope will always beat someone that doesn't. it takes a game mechanic to the extreme.

That's one of the most stupid idea I've ever read on this forum. Seems like Michael has a competition.

why is it stupid? because i want to try and limit all the hybrid bullshit? someone thats good as blocking will still be good at blocking, but if they are an archer, all in archery there blocking with a sword/polearm/2handed sword shouldnt be lightning fast
-
If you have problems to defeat someone with 1 wpf, then you should probably invest your energy into practising melee rather than creating stupid threads.

sorry dont have time to play 18 hours a day

seriously go run up on someone like harmless with her bow standing way in the back picking off people with lasersight accuracy, then watch as she pulls out her 2h spiked mace blocks your second attack(easily despite 1wpf) then lifts it over her head as you try and back out of range and get crushed through.
Seems legit, now take into account you came up on her from behind, and got your first attack in, in the time it took you to swing a second time, she has turned around, put her bow away, and take out the 2h mace AND BLOCKED the second attack.
switching weapons instantly, yeah its in the game. Blocking like the best person who ever lived and carried a weapon with 1wpf. its in the game
-
So you basically want artificially reduce people's ability to block, so you can land some easy hits on archers from behind? Tip: charge your overhead on them. Most archers have little to non head armor and charged overhead one hits them.
-
what i want is to when im coming up on an archer, is to fight an archer. not a jedi warrior.

Then fight an archer and not one of the best players in the game. Some archers put 100 melee wpf in their builds btw, I know a few. How is that for a rude and nasty surprise.

if they are so good a little handicap shouldn't hurt them now should it?
-
Add A poll so everyone can tell you how retarded this idea is
-
im sure almost as retarded as your face.
-
i haz no problumz killing archurs?
is fine
no nurf?
-

Handicaps will hurt the lesser experienced players far more then the jedi.
My problem is that this is not targeting the average or even experienced player, but the jedi players of which make up a very small portion of the server, yet will effect everyone.
-
I'm one of the least tactical players in this game yet I do fine against most archers in hand to hand. The troublesome ones are the people who've either put some points into hand-to-hand wpf or who can block long enough that their friends to help. Case and point: It's not the blocking which kills me but the people using it. So far as I can tell, from both a realistic and gameplay perspective, this is completely fine.
And the issue isn't just that it's good players doing the blocking but that it's good players who allowthemselves to be put into that position. Even if I rush PrideCrusher he really doesn't have much to fear from me in close range. The main nuisance for him is that I stop him from using his bow for a little while. My plan, in these cases, is that hopefully I can distract him long enough that my buddies get there before his.
if they are so good a little handicap shouldn't hurt them now should it?
This is the same logic used to justify the gross and inefficient subsidy for hydroelectricity in Ontario. Shame on you sir.
-
I don't have a single hybrid right now, and as much as I hate hybrid that can one hit kill me from both long reach and close quarter, I think this suggestion is slightly dumb, you take the word "Proficiency" a bit too literally, might as well make everyone under 130 prof not even able to handle a weapon and just stab themselves in the dick/vagina.
-
Absolutely not, blocking is player skill based, and that's the way it should be. This is coming from a horrible manual blocker too.
-
Why don't we just make blocking (parrying) based off of our intelligence?
-
I would be the Best Ever. Yes let's do this.
Or not I mean it would be kinda unfair to others if I could kill whole teams all by myself, no matter the odds. You know. At least now you can throw shit at me.
-
I gave up throwing, joined the dark side - and now cry nerf with every other melee classed player. Though I am thinking of buying a horse...
I miss throwing but it's OP tbh and I don't even like fighting against throwers.
-
Almost like prepatch, when 200wpf player could spam you and you can't block?
That's one of the reason of the patch, to balance game between new character and nolifer character. It's no more based on time you spend in the game, but on player's skill.

Prepatch I realized my 80-90 ping was holding me back from ever being that great at parrying. I relied on that 200+ wpf to keep me competitive. Post patch I fell into the throwing category to stay viable. Now I am back at trying parry again. I'm actually not awful but it's the sudden lag that means life and death and it's just too frustrating.
Fingers crossed on the West Coast server - I will be parrying all over the place.

Asking to have block related to WPF .. it's like asking to make the aiming with a sword using wpf .. completely non-sense !
Blocking will never make you kill someone ... so why would it need any requirement except than the player's skills at blocking.
You complain about weapon switch , then blocking .... if you're not happy about how cRPG is , feel free to quit and try another mod.
We won't change a mod for you because you're not so good at it, and if you were good at it, you wouldn't be complaining about the things that can make you die easier...

the majority of people agree with the weapon switch.

HEY GUYS NOW I KNOW : LETS MAKE SO THAT WITH 200 WPF YOU BLOCK AUTOMATICLY EH?? (this was in my mind when i saw this thread..)

I believe there's already an effect, it's just too minute until you hit some wpf sweet spot or other. I know a few other regular duelists and I noticed a reduction in block speed post-patch, and it might be related to the wpf nerf. I'm not sure.
All I know is that in the past, I didn't have to commit to a block- I could switch it around and settle on the correct one at the last millisecond. This allowed us to match each feint with a block. These days, I pretty much have to see which swing is an actual swing and commit to it.
Of course, this could also be a result of people getting better at high-speed deep feints, but I don't know. We'd need access to pre-patch conditions to test it.

Much like how a high weapon proficiency archer or high horse archery has arrows that occasionally 'home' in on targets, I believe that a higher melee weapon proficiency provides instances where the wrong swing is bent into a right one.
I used to have 227 wpf pre-patch, and I distinctly recall time when I'd swing a miss and the blade would just snap to my opponent on its own.
Currently, with 172 wpf, I see this happen every now and then, too. It's a very odd swing that looks like an instant change- watch for it. A lot of times, people think it's a chamber, but it's not. It's your wpf working for you!

Oh so just handicap players with skill?
What's wrong with you?!
I'm probaly one of those archers you found. But I do have 100 2h wpf.
Don't be so butthurt. L2P

actually it handicaps everyone, but just pick out the things that make you most mad and post about them.
Im 200k from retiring and going hybrid like everyone else so i honestly dont care anymore, Cant beat em, join em.

Yep, I have the same feeling. Arrows sometimes curving into heads, wrong blocks sometimes autocorrecting. When the game was DDOSed I was in a strategus battle and shot and the arrow turned 30° in flight and landed in a head...
Don't know might be just random shit happening (and it doesn't often) sometimes but I only noticed it with high wpf.

Numerous times while playing i have started one swing only to have it switch to another. For instance going from left side to overhead, switching mid swing. However i have never been able to do it on purpose.

Your WPF working for you... That's one of the most insane theories I've ever heard.
What's more likely with the arrow curves and blocks/attacks switching, is that it's packet loss related. I'm actually quite certain this is the case. If you pay special attention to when it happens, it's mostly when the server you're playing on is under heavy stress, a situation prone to packet loss. Arrow trajectory, blocks and attacks are all decided by mouse movement(camera position is decided by mouse movement), so even if it isn't packet loss related(I've never experienced this on single player, have you?) it is without a doubt related to mouse movement.
Currently I have 1 wpf in 2h while main specing archery, I also do absolutely fine in melee combat.

I can finally agree with Zisa on something.

This. Also, I'm not sure how this game handles the ping difference when it comes to block/swing/shoot. For example, in Team Fortress 2 if a sniper shots you in the head in HIS game (your position is possibly a bit different because of lag), you get shot in yours regardless of where you thought you were. It has happened to me lots of times, specially with a very fast class (scout), i see the sniper, get into cover and then BAM headshot.

im suprised that you managed to stop leeching and building ladder towers long enough to post.
In regards to attacks switching being server packet related, i was doing this on the duel server last night with just myself and one other person there. Starting swinging one way and it changed mid swing.

Scour the warband beta forums if you can, it is probably explained there. Sheesh.
Short version.. client side sees different then server side, and that magical swing is most likely not perceived as such by everybody else.

I assumed Kalam's exclamation mark at the end of his sentence meant he was being sarcastic.
-
I dont know what the fuck im talking about so ill just point you in another direction. Sheesh.

Thats funny you should say that, because i was on the duel server testing things with someone, and i went for a side swing, and they went for a side block, and it ended up as an overhead swing and they died. so either they saw it as i was swinging it and it switched(we were not dueling just checking damage and attack speeds) Or it did switch mid swing.

Indeed, just yesterday I was on the duel server with a friend that just started playing. More than once I had this issue but every time he had the proper block up.

You obviously do not play a lot, I did that like 5 times on separate occasions.

Anytime i am on and you are also on, id say 1 in 5 rounds you are on an elephant, all the others you are naked with only ladders.

When I read the OP I immediatly thought of this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK6TXMsvgQg

This will only end up with builds with the fastest speeds to dominate. Imagine a 2H wielding a Katana with 180 wpf. Yeh, would not be fun.

I don't see how, Block speeds are already much faster then attack speeds, and as it is someone with the slowest weapon speed in the game, with 1 WPF in that weapon, can still manually block 100% of a single persons attacks against them, even if they have the fastest weapon in the game. If their weapon also happens to be a crush through weapon, they can attack from overhead and even if you block they can crush through and one shot you.

womp womp:
- "I can't break through blocks"
- "crushthrough breaks through blocks"
So:

please let this thread sink to the bottom of obscurity

wpf doesnt count that much.
its more comfy with high wpf, but you can go with 1 and then you have less chance to make faults.
you win a duel (in normal case) when your enemy makes some fault, we all are humans.
if you make fatal fault(s) earlier, then you loose.
wpf adds a bit damage also, but Power Strike is more vital to damage.
if you got high wpf you can make much complex feints (of course, not wpf is the only that you need for them)
these things smell like facts.
-
seriously go run up on someone like harmless with her bow standing way in the back picking off people with lasersight accuracy, then watch as she pulls out her 2h spiked mace blocks your second attack(easily despite 1wpf) then lifts it over her head as you try and back out of range and get crushed through.

I've never had ANYBODY, not archer or melee with his weapon already out, beat me so badly when I had the drop. You simply suck. Btw I'm pure 2h, last gen I was a hybrid 2h/thrower and tbh I see a HUGE difference in attack AND block speed. I own much harder with pure, don't even notice the hybrids blocking in melee given they die in 1-2 hits like every other non-tincan.
-
Only me voting the 3rd option :Weapons Breaking: option? lol
-
Having read the original post with an open mind, i believe thusly...
1.)low wpf will kill even the best blockers.
2.)if this idea is ever implemented, it should help guard against crushthrough as a trained skill, much like powerstrike. not wpf.
3.)this would be absolutely discouraging to anyone just starting the game.
so point a:
is it annoying when an archers blocks you? yes. is it annoying when they kill you because of a tilde key chamber, or a "lightning fast block"? YES. would it be worth encouraging ranged people to not use weapons or turtle because of blocking deficiency? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
NO.
i HATE people like that, and this idea would make a whole SERVER with them. those 10 athletics, pink haired, derp faced, 12 power draw archer bundle of stickss who are the same people that use the AWP on counterstrike. i hope that people like that get inexplicably fisted by the hulk until they can store groceries in their ass like a car.
point b:
i HATE it when i am incapable of winning because of a stat. with the current system, someone who is really good can overcome the gargantuan disadvantage of having absolutely no wpf. with this, starting out would be even worse.
point c:
do you like being raped by spammers? those 140 agility whore spammers that do nothing but spam? nothing like digital sodomy to make you want to put a bullet in the brain.
point d:
i DO NOT want to live in a world with spam whores and pink haired archer pures that wish to somehow be assimilated into a japanese schoolgirl manga. but most of all, i dont want to waste skill points on an already complex system where one misplaced point stares you in the face every time you level and says "good job on waisting the one thing that gives you an edge"
that being said, i know where you are coming from, and i know its annoying. so here are three practical suggestions...
1.) use a shield.
2.) use a crushtrough weapons
3.) use either high damage or spam to kill people like that.
other than that, the only other solution is to grit your teeth and bear it, and maybe someday go to a skirmish group like SCA and experience combat for yourself... while i have never attended, i have always wanted to go, and i have practiced fencing with wooden longswords, handmade from oak, with my martial artist brother. lots of bruises.
happy gaming to ya.

This is actually happens because of lag i'm pretty sure. I notice when my ping is higher than usual it happens more often than not. Tydeus might be on the right path. I'm not completely sure how it all work. I'm sure from their view you did not change directions mid swing.
-
nahhh i only play this game cause i am an awesome knight!
i dont really care if i die alot

ITT: "Pure" build players bitching once again about how life is unfair because hybrids don't die upon laying eyes on the glory that is the "pure" build's e-peen.
-
hybrid>pure
its a simple fact, something i have embraced and will be joining once parts for my new system arrives and i retire. I look forward to throwing axes from my elephant and then using my triple loomed sword on whoever is left in range, anyone that runs will get one of my arrows in the back..
It is known.

I look forward to picking up that very same axe, planting it in your forehead, and since your skull is so thick, finally killing your armored dildo and blocking you until an archer shoots you in the back.

That's why you make sure that they don't have that opportunity. Just play more and with experience, you will know what to do against those STR builds.

hybrids are NEVER as good as a pure that KNOWS WHAT HE/SHE is doing. that being said, this is an impractical and idiotic idea, and should be stopped.
