So I saw this thread (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,29771.0.html) over in the ban/unban board, and it made me wonder where most people bought warband. Steam/Origin, retail, taleworlds.com, shady CD-Key store or another online shop?
Personally I would never buy from shady online shops. I mean, really, "they sent us scans of the cd-keys"? Sounds totally legit.... No, I would always buy it from Steam (or Origin I guess, if I used that), the producer/developers website (or whatever the official website is) or, last resort, buy it retail. I haven't tried them out really, but I guess I could by from a Direct to Drive site (like Good old Games), but that would be if they had a no DRM policy or a CD-Key wasn't needed. I'd be very sceptical against shady guys who just sells the cd-key, ESPECIALLY if it was only a scanned picture of one xD
Now that I think about it, doesn't these sites selling the same key to multiple people mean that the developers won't get payed? Who buy from them in the first place? Pirating would be exactly the same and you wouldn't have to bother with the CD-Key or any other form of annoying DRM.
Anyway, my question remains. Where did you guys buy warband from? I got mine from steam. Had the original M&B and when warband came out I bought it on Steam since I saw it there first.
inb4 Harpag and his 100 CD-Keys

Steam, but in reality Aldryk gifted it to me and so it was technically him getting it from Steam.
I agree with the general idea and execution of how Steam works, so I like to support it.
-
Best Buy, got a 60$ gift card there for answering questions every few months after rehab. Heh. First game I bought when I got this gaming computer back last april. (:
Although now I only use steam and haven't done retail since.
-
It was a retail Steam version, which one should I vote for?
:)

You might wanna mention that Best Buy is a retail store. :P Lots of people from different countries with different stores, ya know. I was googling it to see if it was an online shop I hadn't heard about xD
I also only buy games from Steam nowadays. Occasionally some other online store, but never again retail.

You just HAVE to make things difficult, now have you, Christo? Damn gingerkid! :P
Retail, I guess. If you paid someone over a counter you bought it retail I say.
-
Damn gingerkid! :P
Whatcha' say?
Gingerkid?
And yeah, I have the retail box right here with me, so I guess I'll vote retail.
At first I was like : Oh god it's a Steam version, but now I don't regret it. =)

well... kind of shady online shop, more specific - one of many offers with supercheap cd-keys on polish auction website... 5$

Is that where the 100 cd keys came from?
Sorry, couldn't resist when I saw who posted.
-
Amazon.
It was quite Random. Searched for the newest Demos in Steam and saw M&B: Warband there. I liked that game so I just went straight off to an I-net site and bought it.
I never regret it.
-
Taleworlds, couple of weeks later it was released.

I dunno, I'm not much involved in clan matter and strategus generally :)
but... :P
-
GamersGate anyone ?
I actually bought a second key on steam as part of the Paradox pack but I gave it to a friend now.
-
Was bugging Taleworlds for beta, then kept bugging the dev team more and got 2 originals for price of one 3 each? just to get rid of me, My bro in Turkey got 1 and I got one in NL.
But Daegoth never thought that I'd find him in Germany, Gamescom VIP section and bug even more.

Amazon digital download
-
About 9 months ago I bought it off Amazon for $14 I think?
Wow... been only 9 months and I'm already the best cRPG player
-
Steam sale back in december. wish I had found out about it sooner.
And screw the shady CD key stores, I have had so many of my CD keys ripped off due to that BS. Fortunately most companies are glad to help you in those cases... blizz is still a PITA to work with.
Wish there was a legit way to get warband key for $5 other than a lucky steam sale.. so many of my friends want it. :P
-
It was gifted to me by a friend :P
-
It was rumoured in the beta community that buying it directly via the Taleworlds website would yield more money for the developers so on release I bought it there to support them, but today I (sort of) wish I had bought it over Steam so I would have a count on the hours I've spent in-game. But maybe it's for the best..
-
Steam.As always.
-
Got it on sale on the steam Christmas sale in 2010 I believe.
-
Bought this game from Best Buy a while ago.
-
Steam of course. And a copy from TW aswell.
Wouldn't ever buy anything from Origin though.
-
Derp. Voted steam shoulda done retail.
-
TW
-
retail
-
Seems like steam is the main seller for us. I wonder how many would have bought warband if steam didn't have it :/
-
I saw Warband on Steam. Didn't play normal M&B but noticed Warband on release day and bought it on steam... :P
-
I bought it in Montgomery Flea Market.
-
Retailer, "Media Markt" to be exact. Large Electronic store chain in Germany with retarded TV advertisements....
Saw a medieval role-playing game without any trolls (well...), elves, wizards and the likes and knew I HAD to get it...
-
I only buy at retail. I will never pay for download (did that once).
If I want to download I can do it, and not pay for it.
I never buy on steam, everything is overpriced there (good only for those who use euro). Its silly to pay more for only download copy, when I can buy cheaper retail and register it on steam. I have possibility to download + box. Pay less, get more.
-
Uh finded ma copy in da grave
When uh was simply dead...
And so all that m&b race began
-
Steam.
-
I actually won my key from http://steamunpowered.eu/, sponsored by some keyshop. I'm glad they didn't resell that key
-
I bought it from the website when it was still only zendar and the two castles but went out to a retail store for Warband. Although it's no where to be found in retailers now that I've been back to them.
-
First i tried it (Arrrrr) for a long time and then i bought it at the Steam Winter-Sale 2010 =P
-
Bought the Mount & Blade package deal from Steam.
-
I bought mine from Steam :)
a little of topic here but Origin also sells others games that are not EA GAMES? man I hate origin
-
i bought cd online from one game shop in my country and then they delivered me cd by city express.
