Title: Dear Balancers
Post by: Leshma on April 07, 2012, 05:04:57 pm
Why does items of same weight have different stats?

Can you stop acting childish (I'm talking to you, Fasader) and fix stats on some items so they have same weight/stat ratio as others in their class? I'm mainly talking about armor stats.

What I'm talking about? See it for yourself:

Nordic Fighter Helmet
weight: 1.5
head armor: 34
difficulty: 9

vs

Crested Boerk with Plume
weight: 1.5
head armor: 29
difficulty: 9

This is just one example, one of the worst.

They say its because some items look good and some don't. I think that's just wrong and biased. Light Kuyak is still one of the best looking armors and best armors stat wise. Certainly, reason for that lies in fact that Nordmen clan use that armor

Even the slightest differences of one point bothers me, not because it makes one armor better than other one, it's because that tells a story of biased item balancers who obviously favorize certain items they use. Not just that, it's pretty obvious that turkish, mongolian and byzantium gear is worse compared to their favorite gear, for the same reason.

Also, leg armor isn't important at all these days. Giving one armor huge body armor rating and low leg armor rating makes it incredibly OP compared to item of similar weight which has more leg armor.

Sarranid Guard armor has the best armor/weight ratio in game, why there aren't other armors like that one?

Make it fair and right for everyone!

Maybe it's because some items should be cheaper but slightly disadvantageous. Also, leg armor is for cavalrymen not infantry. Other than that, I think you have a point there. As an easterling myself, I want eastern armors to be proper, not cheaper. At least not all of them.

It would be fun from a min-maxer point of view to have multiple options too - now you know what's best and there's no diverting from that. You can wear other stuff and do so because you love it, but it's pretty clear what's best. Diversity please! :D

The Crested Boerk with Plume weighs more to simulate the embarrassment your character feels in wearing a really silly looking hat.  It may literally only weigh 1.1 but it FEELS like 1.5 because of the shame.

doesnt leg armor weight make you slower than weight on body armor? e.g wearing 4.1 pound black armor boots vs 4.4 padded jack. Therefore added leg armor on body armor is balanced.

Sarranid Guard armour is a bit of an anomaly though, for cost, weight and body armour it is a bit unbalanced. Other ones that come to mind are the ~6k ones with only 38 body armour. They may be good for cav though I guess who might favour leg armour but really you can just wear better boots. Maybe if they don't want to balance those stats they could make boots generally heavier or more expensive?

Pretty much all of the helmets are balanced for weight and cost except that particular style. They should probably be cheaper or lighter

Well for the helmet example I suppose you could justify the difference being the nord helmet covers more of your head, the plume only covers the top.  So even if they weigh the same, one covers your head better?

Not saying I disagree with the OP, just playing devil's advocate
