The current system is idiotic! :D
Basically high armor value reduces horse bump damage to sweet fuck all. The lvl of damage being dished out to "soft" targets is fucking horrible. Start of round team horse bumps often knock off 1/8th of my health.
Its not balanced it completely shits on agi builds.
The end.
-
More armor = more protection. This is sound logic. Agi builds not only wear less armor, they also have less iron flesh and str points. I don't see why they wouldn't get damaged more than higher armor/str builds. The real issue here is the cav players doing the bumping. If someone horse bumps you then report them. People let them off too lightly and most people don't even report. If everyone reported them then they sure as hell would start watching where they parked their horsies.
-
Its not about "realism" more over its not more realistic that a guy in plate takes no damage when he is picked up and slammed into the ground vs a guy that is wearing padded leather. If its the padding in the armour your referring to the light armors have the same "padding".
I'm talking about balancing something out that is fucking retarded. I'm rolling a balanced 18/18, with plenty of IF but a little tap from a rouncy still blows 1/5th-1/8th of my health away, its pretty bloody horrible given the huge amount of cav these days. If I just crutch the heavy armour the horse bumps do no damage, none at all. But if I drop bellow about 40 I get smashed to dust but the shittiest of horses. Its a balance issue and its real, the level of damage difference is HUGE, its way too much. I say the damage should be cut roughly in half and bypass the armor.
-
Most of the time I wear linen tunics and I rarely have over 4 IF. I don't get much damage from cav when they bump me. Usually it's about 1 10th of my health, unless it's some heavy horse in which case, yes it does fuck me up. I honestly do not see how you can be taking that much damage from horses like the rouncey with an 18/18 build.
I will quote myself from before

The problem isn't how much damage we take, it's the cavs doing the horse bumping. Horse bumping needs to be punished more and then people will stop doing it. Most horse bumping happens at spawn so maybe doing something like making cav players spawn 10 seconds after everybody else so there isn't any crowding at the spawn would help. I'm not sure.
-
I agree, its not the individual damage of one horse. Its the wall of bumps :/
I'm mostly just raging because I forgot how much they hurt in comparison to when you have armor on and they do nothing :|

I understand that. I've started using more armor recently and I can hardly feel the bumps now unless it's some tin can horse at full speed. Something does need to be done in general about horse bumping, but what that is i'm really not sure. Having cav spawn in a different place or setting their spawn timer later than inf would work for getting rid of bumping at spawn I guess but bumping in a battle can't really be helped most of the time.

No, if I were to take less damage from charging horses, the risk/reward for standing there in place and shooting at the last second and then dodging the horse would go away. Why dodge? Just stand and shoot the player and ignore the horse.
Granted, I'm probably in a very very slim minority of players who walk into an open field and challenge cavalry to come and get them, but it would make it unfair for the cavalry. Right now the Cavalry/Open field Archer balance is just right.

As a horseman and medium/heavy armor wearer (getting bumped doesn't hurt me very much) I would agree it does too much damage to lightly armored people.
Let's break down what happens when a horse runs into someone. Are we talking about the breast of the horse ramming into someone (then your armor isn't going to help much, you're still taking the full brunt of that 800-1200 lb animal running at what, 20-40mph?). That's going to fuck anyone up, regardless of your armor. If you're being stepped on from a hoof then I think armor would help compared to not having any, but it would still be able to break bones through armor I would imagine.
This is all being "envisioned" in my head, and I admit that I could be completely wrong (I never took physics for one). But just from a common sense point of view, I can't see armor helping much in these situations. Imagine a small car driving 35mph into you and not stopping as it hit you, I don't think plate armor is going to do a whole lot to protect you from the blunt force and the probably whiplash effect to your brain.

CrazyCracka, I can and do get glances for almost no damage in my ragged outfit and hide boots. A leg or maybe its a shoulder bump doesn't do much, especially if I manage to move in the direction the horse is moving, but if I take the full chest of the horse to my face, it does 25-80% health depending upon which horse it is. (12-15 strength, so not many HP's) If you guys are just standing there and being hit, or are moving towards the horse, the speed bonus kicks in making it more damaging. Move away from the horse, or don't get caught full on, (ie, get a glancing blow) it isn't that damaging.
I take horses on in the field all the time. In my opinion, the risk/reward/damage ratio is fine.
When I was testing out the HX, the only class that I found was really vulnerable was the shielder. You can bump charge them almost all day long. I suggested this before, but the shielder should get a damage reduction (or no damage), but still a knockdown when they are holding their shield up to block/absorb/deflect the impact.
Everyone else is fine.

I follow the very same playstyle. Surprisingly most of the time I do not even have to dodge after a succesful hit on the rider. They kinda auto-retreat without bothering to bump me. I was wearing tunic with green cape most of the time but since I bought this new armor ... thingy with 30 body armor some days ago I was surprised how little damage you get from bumps. On a plated charger its a whole different story of course. No armor = much damage seems fair enough.

Haha, yeah I notice the same thing. They tend to veer off when the player gets stunned. I figure its because they are rarely actually riding straight, more of veering left/right along the vector and when they get hit, the horse keeps going towards whichever side they were strafing towards

I'm not talking about wiping out the damage, you misunderstand me.
I'm talking about evening it out. If you like the amount of damage say a dude wearing a Lammlar Vest takes then apply that across all the horses. Obviously horses cause different amounts of damage, but what ever the amount is of each horse running down a dude in a Lammlar vest, take that and apply it. Make it negate the heavy armour. I'm talking about making the damage for light amour go away, I'm talking about making a flat amount of damage that punches through.
At the moment str builds in high end mid tier armour take no damage from horse bumps and its stupid. That is what I'm arguing against, taking no damage it all vs taking heaps of damage.

bump damage does too much damage to everyone, needs a nerf since its an easy way to get kills that requires no skill.
-
stop whining about bumps, bumps actualy should kill you. When horse bump you it is like car in real life hit you,it would for shure brake you some bones or kill you. Lets wear heavy plate, and let horse hit you,it would fuck you as same as you don't wear it.
The problem with this mode is when players class can't be OP,or he can't be on top of the scoreboard he complain about game balance. Nerf archery, nerf cav, nerf everything just make me unbeatable.

balance > realism.
also im cav so..

Game is balanced enough. Our horses are so great and strong that we need to play like a my old friends and backstab ppl.
Let's make them more ussless by removing every good thing we can use.
Spears can outreach lances,i pay over 1k repairs every round, horse dies from 2-3 arrows, stop from one pike hit and gets you killed, horse die from one leg hit with any weapon and that shit isn't enough but you need to nerf cav again.
-
in reality horsmen ride straight into infrantery and play like heroes, only in crpg horsmans play like a pussies because cav is so nerfed that it can't be played properly. Even shitty peasant lvl 4-5 can kill your horse.
-
Horse bumps make it so unskilled players can just sell heirloom points and use heavy cav to horse bump people to death and actually be a factor.
Lower or negate the damage.

You serious? Now after the patch heavy CAV players cannot charge directly into infantry anymore because one hit to the legs is enough to bring down an elephant. People who ride on heavy horses must notice that. Horse bump needs a buff just like in reality.

wait, wasnt it you who was lately going on server doing nothing else but bumping people, not even trying to land an attack, you'd get positive score. yea your nick was lungy_bump_for_justice.
you just actually shot yourself in the foot, it's your brain that needs a buff...
cav is the only class that get a passive weapon that can kill people with no intention to do so

Ye my last gen was a bumper with 13 riding. However even with 13 riding i canot bump kill anyone in 1 bump. I have to bump 6 times at full speed in order to bump kill people with 50+armor. Sometime i can 1 bump kill a peasant but sometime can;t. It's pretty hard to get postive score because you have to bump into the enemy and not the friendlies . All horses can die from 1 hit believe me or not. Any weapon that hits the horse in the legs can deal a massive amount of damage. If a player has 5 or more PS it is enough to 1-hit-kill a destrier / war horse.
-
balance > realism.
also im cav so..
I have no idea who that other guy is, but if Badplayer is calling for a bump damage fix, I believe him.
And Frank, I gotcha now.

The fact that a "Bumper" build exists is the reason horse bump needs to be nerfed. There is no skill to it. None at all.
And since you want to always go the "Hurf durf REALISM" route. Wouldn't the horse riders take damage when their horses die and they are going full speed?
Easier fix would just be to get rid of bump damage. Keep in the bump interrupting though.

By that logic the fact that unbreakable shield build exists means that shields should be nerfed. Not a terribly good argument imo.
-
I will take a nerf to shields if you give me either a shield bash or remove manual blocking during kicks.

Alex the dragon, Mlekce.
Read and understand what this is about before you start ranting incoherently.
This isn't a bump damage nerf, if anything it is a buff because it would be increasing the damage dished out to heavier armor, and reducing it for lower armor which would mean an over all damage buff because you would have more targets to hurt with bumps :/ far out, talk about completely missing the bloody point.

This is retarded on so many levels.
