Someone hid as the clock ran down on EU1. I started a kick poll, just as the hider emerged and started fighting. Some pink text appeared amid lots of complaints about stupid polls. I was kicked by someone, don't know who. No reason given. Tried to rejoin, there was now a ban in place, no notification of why. I do not know who did this, or for how long this arbitary ban is in place. Please inform me, thanks.

Seems like you were banned from poll abuse indeed.
The ban runs out in 10mins, read the rules.

Okay, but it would have been nice to have had some information, other than "You were kicked" and then "You have been banned". Because of the manner in which it was done, I have no idea who was responsible for the decision so I can't make any complaint.

After i read the logs, this came out:
44220: 22:52:07 - Petulengro started a poll to kick player Byzantium_Anoyanss.
44249: 22:52:56 - [Petulengro] tactical poll
44271: 22:53:19 - [Petulengro] just to make the hiding person think
44313: 22:53:40 - Terrorizer Petulengro
44349: 22:53:49 - Petulengro is kicked.
44350: 22:53:49 - Merc_BlueberryMuffin banned player Petulengro for 3h. Reason: Poll abusing.
And BlueberryMuffin did tell you the reason for the ban:
44245: 22:52:47 - [ADMIN][Merc_BlueberryMuffin] if anyone creates a ridiculous poll like that again they can have a few hours ban
44261: 22:53:07 - [ADMIN][Merc_BlueberryMuffin] tactical poll?
44265: 22:53:09 - [ADMIN][Merc_BlueberryMuffin] ok mate
The reason why the ban came after some time and not immediately, is the kick/ban list in-game is totally mess.
I suggest you to read through the rules to avoid such bad actions in the future.
