Title: What Was Going On Here?
Post by: Elmetiacos on March 27, 2012, 01:12:26 pm
Hot_Chick_with_a_Sword was fighting in that town map called Riot in Swadian Market or whatever it is, against a spear and shield user - I think a plain spear or shortened spear. It's easy to block those people, you just downward block every attack because they can only thrust. But every block, 4 in a row at least, was ignored and she was hit anyway. I'm aware of "phantom blocks" but surely not this many consecutive ones? The other strange thing was the sound made by the stab sounded wrong, as if it were a kick or a punch and I didn't take very much damage. Was this person (Lucky_strike I think he was called) using a hack, was it a bug or what?

You refer to your characters in the third person :D ? Anyway there is a block bug that happens sometimes..you think you're holding block one way but to everyone else on the server you're actually holding another way.

When it comes to stabs though I guess someone could bypass your block if they spin it around to your side

Maybe he stabbed you just an inch from the side?  Downblock doesn't work if the stabber steps a bit to your side. Just like shields, they can stab in from the side which is totally annoying but actually realistic^^  Although it's unrealistic that they can step and turn that fast, but that's another topic :P

I remember approaching a piker with a held downblock and he stabbed and I got hit. My jaw fell on the floor. Phantomblocks do exist. Had several occasions before where I was damn sure I blocked that, but I just tried to blame not holding properly or it going around me. Definitely not the case with this pike instance.

Think its just latency and your block being interpreted wrong server side while still displaying the intended block client side. Did you release the block button in between those hits?

Referring to your characters in third person is really weird btw.

Maybe there is a connection to the strange slowness of the danish greatsword.

Client and server desync I reckon. At client it appears as if you're holding down block but at server it's registered as a right block for example, thus making the enemies attack (who sees a right block because the server told him so), go through your "down" block.

Same can happen when you're actually holding the wrong block, but on the server it's the right one (because that was your previous block) and you actually block for example a left swing with your "down" block. As soon as that happens your block changes to the correct one without you even releasing right mouse button, which is really funny.

Same can happen with chambering weapons and releasing left mouse button, if at the moment of left mouse release there's some lag/packetloss/whatever and then when you're not holding down the mouse button you still have your sword chambered. I specially noticed this one when cmp implemented the delay to 2h right swing chamber, my sword got "stuck" in chamber quite often.

I'm sure it has happened to quite a few others as well, I get this now and then.

It is slower than German GS.

You don't believe in phantom blocks either?

Hmm. I released the button, obviously, because I kept getting hit.

I just don't want to give the impression that I'm a hot chick in real life. In case anyone thought that. Ah, nevermind.

I know the animations fuck up at times (the character blocks another direction than intended) but if you just go with your gut I can honestly say that I've never experienced stuff going through my blocks.

The most suspicious is when you hold a wrong block and it shows as the correct one, but that's quite rare and, as said, it's still the correct block in accordance with your mouse movements.

It's not. Just an optical illusion, a flaw in ppl's perception, I'm sure.

Haha vibe that happened to me yesterday where I was trying to left block and threw a down block on accident, apparently the server knew I was trying to left block and magically my "down block" blocked the right swing from the enemy.

I'm assuming this person just kept "blocking" and never re-blocked down between the 4 hits.
