So I have been thinking about heirlooming a shield, but then I noticed that it rarely breaks. I use the elite cavalry shield all the time and find that although it would be nice if it was a bit stronger, it still very rarely breaks for me.
So I was thinking that shields should also gain a small amount of speed for heirlooming to give a useful bonus for wanting to heirloom a shield. The speed advantage on a shield is more based on your shield skill anyways but it would be nice for duelist type builds like my own to gain a bit more speed from heirlooming our shields.
What do you think?
-
If you really like this shield, go on... Speed increase is very good, becouse when your shield is faster, then your weapons swing is faster too :)
-
Yeah, I think at least 2 points in speed per gen. So +6 to speed at masterwork.
-
Honestly even 6 points isn't very much on shield speed but I think it would still make heirlooming a shield worth it.
-
Completely agree.
-
its a armor and hit points that are increesed not speed

fyi shield speed is how quickly the shield is drawn out but weapon speed is unaffected
-
I would like speed increase, and perhaps weight decrease too.
-
I say keep the weight. Increasing shield speed makes it easier to be a shielder but doesn't undue the three main checks on shielders: handicapped weapon speed, weight, and cost. Increasing shield health, armour, and speed keep these checks in play while still making heirloomed shields appealing.
-
Dont make a 1hander faster they are fast enough (merc_varyag)

If I'm not mistaken, it also affects how quickly you can lower the shield as well. Therefore, although weapon speed is not affected, you will technically be able to swing faster from time of response to time of delivery.
-
Shield heirlooms are nice already, grab a masterpiece huscarl when you find one of the Wolves guys, they're really really damn tough to break.
-

Really?
-
increase blocking speed, i get hit often even tough i block because its just too slow (
and maybe decrease wheigt a bit)
-
Or maybe make non-heirloomed shields break faster so that the heirloomed ones would be more of an interest
-
Lol k....
If you heirloom any shield except for the fastest 3 shields, you are not effecting the overall caps on melee speed at all.
Once you go from say 100 speed on a shield to 106 than would you see a SLIGHT edge given to the shield user.
HOWEVER since the shield skill also effects how fast you can raise/lower your shield effectively aren't you giving them maybe 1/2 a shield point without the extra hp? Shield 6 vs 6.5 in speed.
Doesn't really sound that game breaking mechanically to me.
-
Really?
ill rephrase that.. how fast the shield is raised and lowered.
-
Bump~
-
I agree with this suggestion, even though I use one of the cheaper shields (cheapest board shield). A small speed bonus would be welcome.
But then again, they could also live without it.

I'm pretty sure most people, except perhaps Lady Gaga, would survive without heirlooms altogether.
-
+3 speed to shields at masterwork would be fine but no need to change anything else they are pretty much fine
-
I think +3 speed and some more hitpoints/armor would be enough to satisfy.

Sheilding is the easiest playing style but against anyone half decent you feel handicapped my level 15 shielder has got more kills not using a shield than using it. My other chars a level second gen 30 and a level 27 are 2H and Polearm so i can block fairly well but i think shields not 1 handers need an edge in melee combat although not against archers

Even more advantages? Use one of the OP weapons, you've got a speed buff as well, while others got nerfed like crazy.
What else do you want, a hand-held nuclear missile launcher? Omg.
PS: If shields get buffed, 1h gets the buff.
-
Lol yeah more speed to the huscarl side sword spammers. That what we need. An increase in speed and reduction in weight would be fucking rediculious.
I agree 1h can be a very hard class to play but whenever ive taken a huscarl n side sword i just stop thinking.
-
My main is 1hander, even if shielder have some disadvantage they are still the most easy class for defense (and hardest for attack, logical) but i can tell you that shields don't need a speed buff. You don't need speed to be efficient cause it's not a matter of speed but of timing.
If you want to play a spammer go 2h/pole, but learn to block, you can't have all advantage in one class.
-
Maybe give the speed boost to only the weakest shields? Promotes variety more (not much though) and definitely won't make them overpowered.
-
Honestly shields being tougher isn't a good enough reason to want to heirloom them.
When weapons and armor will yield better results in comparison.
